Right at Home Housing Society (RAHHS) provides a range of affordable housing solutions to meet the diverse needs of individuals and families throughout the city of Edmonton.

We are seeking a Housing Manager who will play a key role in maintaining over 35 rental properties that we currently own and manage.

You will oversee a portfolio of RAHHS properties and manage relationships with tenants to maintain their housing agreements. Your role will be dynamic and require flexibility in a busy environment. Our tenants include a diverse range of people who struggle with poverty.


Job Purpose

  • To effectively and efficiently meet the goals, objectives, and priorities of RAHHS, focusing on the housing needs of tenants who are in need of support, and who are at risk of losing their housing
  • Strive to ensure that tenants living in RAHHS housing are able to have an overall positive housing experience over the long term, including a sense of community and security,
  • To effectively utilize resources and support services which are available in the community, so
RAHHS tenants at risk of losing their housing remain housed,

  • Ensuring that vulnerable clients in housing
- first programs who are housed in RAHHS units, continue to be supported by the housing
- first service provider, such that clients are more likely to remain housed over the long term,

  • Ensuring that tenants that are no longer able to live in RAHHS housing, will find alternative housing, and not fall into homelessness.
  • Create and foster relationships in the community the further the ends of RAHHS and positively impacts the housing experience of RAHHS tenants.
  • Represent RAHHS on housing related and community initiatives that serve to improve the RAHHS housing opportunities, and the non profit housing sector in our community.

Key responsibilities:


  • Manage a housing portfolio for properties owned and managed by RAHHS, performing the following tasks**:_
  • Collect, record and receipt rents and security/key deposits and maintain related accounting
  • Arrange for payment of arrears and damages with tenants
  • Distribute and maintain keys
  • Assist applicants with forms, verify incomes, prepare rental agreements and administer tenant selection
  • Ensure movein inspection reports are complete
  • Coordinate with the Director of Asset Management and maintenance team to ensure buildings are properly maintained

Provide supportive housing management services as follows:_

  • Liaising with the Tenant Support Worker(s):
  • respond to tenant issues, through meetings with tenants, and/or written correspondence,
- mediate disputes between tenants
- mediate disputes between tenants and neighbours of adjacent properties
- support tenants who can no longer live at RAHHS through finding appropriate housing alternatives, so they do not become homeless

  • Refer tenants at risk of losing their housing to appropriate external supports
  • Involve 3rd party intervention services when necessary (e.g. crisis intervention for mental health, addictions, EPS, EMS, and Mental Health Crisis Outreach Team, and housing first support teams)
  • Report to and involve RAHHS maintenance team as necessary (e.g., damages to unit, incidents etc.)
  • Collaborate with RAHHS senior management as necessary, when dealing with tenancies involving intervention, and, possible or probable eviction
  • Build relationships, liaise and/or collaborate with 'housingfirst' service providers, to ensure housing first clients whom are housed in RAHHS units remain housed and supported,
  • Build trust and rapport with tenants,
  • Work towards building community in RAHHS housing, mostly through active engagement with tenants,
  • Facilitate and foster some peer support when possible, and/or appropriate,**:
  • Administrative tasks as follows**:_
  • Maintain relevant documentation in tenant files
  • Create payment plans when arrears occur
  • Create and work to ensure behavior contracts, and payment contracts are upheld, in order to keep tenants housed
  • Maintain tenant files accordingly, in accordance with RAHHS policy, privacy legislation etc. Including proper 'release of information' forms etc. that must be current and signed by tenants.
  • Consult with the Director of Asset Management to provide input into budgets
  • Reconciliation of accounts e.g., rents receivable, security deposits, general resident accounts receivable, utilities
  • Prepare a monthly update to the Director of Property Management regarding vacancies, arrears, and eviction prevention strategies**:
  • Provide Supervision of the Live-In Caretaker if applicable**:_
  • Liaise with Livein Caretaker to ensure Health and Safety, tenant issues (including conflict, need for support services, and emerging issues and incidents) are dealt with effectively
  • In conjunction with other managers, advertise, interview and hire livein caretakers
  • Supervise and evaluate employee's performance during annual performance
