Background


The Langley Senior Resources Society (LSRS) is an independent, not-for-profit, charitable organization that has been providing social, recreational, and educational programs; and food, health and supportive services for adults 50 years of age and older in the City and Township of Langley since 1982.

LSRS has over 850 members, more than 55 programs, services and events, over 40 staff, more than 200 volunteers, and two primary locations.


Job Summary


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Human Resources Coordinator will take charge of all matters related to LSRS's human resources including hiring, training, performance evaluation, compensation, employee relations, and succession planning.

The individual will provide leadership and coaching on key workplace matters and would also review and make recommendations on LSRS's complaint, conflict resolution, and harassment investigation and response procedures, and implement the resulting decisions.


Qualifications

  • At least 3 years' experience in a Human Resources Administrator or Generalist role
  • Experience with creating human resources policy and process documentation
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Word; Excel and cloudbased systems an asset
  • Knowledge of human resources best practices and employmentrelated legislation
  • Experience working for a notforprofit organization with an older adult environment is an asset

As this is a new position, there will likely be some challenges in determining how responsibilities will be shared or allocated between this position and department leads.


Responsibilities:


  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, draft a 6month work plan
  • Advise on matters related to human resources including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and succession planning, and to implement the resulting decisions
  • Review and make recommendations on the complaint, conflict resolution, and harassment investigation and response procedures, and implement the resulting decisions
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, determine staffing requirements and ensure appropriate salary and wage structure
  • Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices, including development and review of job descriptions for all staff
  • Oversee the updating of the employee manual outlining specific duties and area responsibilities, expectations, code of conduct, etc.
  • Respond to staff complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution and investigations
  • Monitor the pulse of the organization assessing employee morale, conveying findings and recommendations to the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors
  • Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further LSRS's mission
  • Ensure that all staff receive an orientation to the organization, and determine their training and equipment needs
  • Participate in regular monthly staff meetings to disseminate information
  • Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff and providing feedback on an ongoing basis, conducting an annual performance review
  • Provide leadership and coaching on key workplace matters such as performance management, difficult conversations, employee relations, and employee development; and ensure directors and department leads are knowledgeable on how to complete and file related documentation; and oversees staff files
  • Oversees and assists with onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Oversees and assists with the disciplining and termination of staff, when necessary, using appropriate techniques and legally defensible procedures
