Position:
Operations Supervisor (Permanent, Full-time)


Reports to:
Lead Operations Supervisor


Reporting to the Lead Operations Supervisor, The Operations Supervisor provides a range of hands-on operations, quality management tasks and planning for the operations at UP Vertical Farms.

This associate will be responsible for all the production related operations such as seeding schedule and plan, data recording and analysis, maximizing profitability and productivity, and sanitation in the production center.

This position assists with audits, corrective action plans, develops and maintains quality assurance databases, QA checks and documentation, and maintains food safety records.

Required to take an active role in ensuring complete customer satisfaction. Provides leadership, direction and coaching to other departments and hub associates regarding production activities. This includes providing essential functions to ensure a no-compromise approach to delivering orders when promised and configured as ordered. This associate will also have key holder responsibilities for the production equipment and ERP software.


DUTIES
Performs day-to-day activities; this includes but is not limited to:

  • Coordinates contracted labourers for seeding, harvesting, packaging activities per Production Manager direction
  • Help create the master production plan to include seeding, grow cycles, harvesting and packaging schedule
  • Perform daily checks of equipment for the grow systems, seeding line, harvesting line, tray washer, and packing line
  • Routine monitoring and recording of different parameters for controlled environment agriculture and of the equipment needed for production
  • Monitor operations team to ensure that tasks for production are completed on time and in accordance with safety laws
  • Responsible for recording efficiency of the production line and acting as a first point of contact for any breakdowns related to the production activity
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to ensure that daytoday production outputs are met
  • Help manage shipping activities and inventory
  • Coordinate and oversees with sanitation of equipment
  • Providing overall support, supervision, and coaching to the production teams
  • Performing routine inspections of the greenhouse and R&D facilities
  • Assists site staff with ensuring highquality food safety and hygiene
  • Assisting with developing, implementing, and maintaining operational and food safety procedures SOPs
  • Ensures compliance with Canada GAP regulations and other jurisdictions
  • Maintains and ensures a safe working environment in the and greenhouse
  • Perform scheduled service/maintenance, trouble shooting of equipment as directed by the Production Manager
  • Conduct production staff meeting to address and discuss any production related issues and concerns
  • Analyze variances in raw material consumption, inventory discrepancy, yield discrepancies, and provides root cause & solution
  • Ensures documentation and certification is maintained and up to date
  • Uses ERP and other operational software as relating to duties
  • Communicates plans, actions, safety risks, and issues within the Operations Team and interdepartmentally
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships
  • Other duties as instructed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks under specific timelines
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs

AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • 2 years of experience working in plant operations, food safety, quality control, production, distribution and packing, or other relevant industries
  • 2 years of equipment and machine operations or maintenance experience
  • Experience leading, motivating, and coaching teams, preferably in an operational setting preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Excel, Word Outlook, etc.), high proficiency in using ERP and IT systems, and ability to extract data from the system to create management reports.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license

WORK CONDITIONS

  • 70% in the production floor and 30% in an office setting
  • 8:00am 4:30pm, 5 days (includes some weekend shifts)
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
  • May be requested to support the operations onsite outside of regular work hours (i.e., evenings, weekends) based on Production plans
  • Use of personal vehicle may be required

Job Types:

Salary:
$52,000.00-$57,000.00 per year
