About the Role:

If you are engaged in the news cycle, can almost always discuss the top stories of the day, and have an eagerness to always be asking, 'what's our next guest or topic?', this role may be for you


You will contribute by:


  • Creating an exciting, interesting, informative, community minded talk show
  • Creating original story ideas and developing them for radio broadcast, social and digital media.
  • Pitching story ideas, chasing and booking guests, and conducting preinterviews.
  • Creating daily rundowns
  • Editing audio and other programming elements.
  • Preparing focus and background notes ahead of live segments, including cover sheets, scripts, etc.
  • Updating and posting to the station website and social media platforms.
  • Collaborating with hosts, producers, and management on content, story development, and dialogue.
  • Participating in pre and post show production meetings.
  • Contributing to breaking news programming.
  • Developing and producing special programming.
  • Liaising with the newsroom on daily show content.
  • Using creativity to find the best way to share a story or segment to enhance listener experience and engagement.
  • Developing and maintaining a network of news contacts and sources.
  • Engaging social media skills to drive listeners to the show
  • Keeping current on all things topical both locally and nationally
  • Representing the station at community and promotional events.
  • Occasionally contributing onair when needed.
  • Practicing ethical principles of journalism.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in broadcast journalism or a related field
  • Previous experience in a similar role is a strong asset; ideally as a chase producer or show producer for talk radio
  • Passionate about news and talk radio
  • Excellent news writing and storytelling skills
  • Strong news judgment for stories that matter to people in Edmonton.
  • Tenacious approach in booking guests and news makers to join hosts onair
  • Ability to write for all media platforms and solid interviewing skills
  • Expertise in audio editing
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local and national news events
  • Proficiency in social media and interest in developing shareable content (audio, X, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Understanding of new media, such as podcasting
  • Proactive selfstarter willing to take initiative to pitch innovative ideas.
  • Excellent organizational, communication & interpersonal skills
  • Creative, energetic, fun, outgoing, positive, friendly manner, team player
