    The Opportunity

    We are looking for an Educational Developer to join the School of Medicine team. The Educational Developer and Clinical Faculty Development position is responsible for collaborating with the Clinical Faculty Development and Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) teams under the leadership of the Assistant Dean of Faculty Development and Assistant Dean of Curricular Innovation. The primary focus of this role is to plan, design, develop, and implement educational curricula (primarily online) for faculty, residents, and relevant staff.

    The educational developer is expected to follow a reflective and evidence-based practice, act as a consultant and collaborator for individuals, groups, and university administration within the School of Medicine, and specifically the Clinical Faculty Development unit and PGME program. Furthermore, this position will offer expertise on the enhancement of pedagogical practices for face-to-face, technology-enhanced, online, simulation, HyFlex*, and blended delivery. The successful candidate will also take a leadership role in creating an institutional environment supportive of teaching and learning excellence, including supporting and advocating for evidence-based technology-enhanced learning (TEL).

    (*HyFlex denotes a learning method where learners choose between in-person or online attendance or delivery).

    To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

  • Completion of a Masters' degree in a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in educational development and/or instructional design (ideally in a postsecondary or healthcare setting).
  • Experience creating curriculum and teaching using online and blended methods (ideally in higher education or healthcare settings).
  • Any of the following certifications, designations, or licenses will be an asset:Specific online learning software training such as Adobe illustrator, articulate, 360, Camtasia certification, or other related elearning software certificationGraphic design certificate or certificationInstructional design certificate or certificationUniversal design or other online accessibility certificate or certificationDigital media certificate or certificationBusiness certification or designation
  • Relevant course development and implementation skills developed through work experience. Ideally this is in the university sector or healthcare sector as an educator, academic consultant, instructional designer, or educational developer.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in collaborating with complex teams, subject matter experts and ideally experience consulting with university academic leadership and faculty members to evaluate needs, advise actions, recommend activities and build consensus.
  • Extensive knowledge of theory and best practices in learning and teaching in higher education, particularly in TEL environments.
  • Expertise in the planning, development and implementation of educational programming at a diverse institution over multiple sites.
  • Course design, development, implementation, and assessment skills for face-to-face, online, simulation, HyFlex and blended learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with stakeholders to assess program needs, conduct workshops, and prepare comprehensive reports, proposals, manuals and presentation materials for specific target audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, conflict management and facilitation skills to be able to work with colleagues at different levels in the organization.
  • Experience with healthcare education systems, especially medical PGME, continuing and faculty education.
  • Experience with equity and community inclusion (ECI) educational curriculum.
  • Due to the nature of accommodating learning to the needs of busy practicing clinicians, faculty and residents, the incumbent will be required on occasion to work outside regular work week hours (eg. occasionally early morning, lunch time, evenings and rare weekends to facilitate delivery of educational programs).
