The Segregated Funds' Financial Management (SFFM) team within Group Retirement Services Finance is responsible for the daily valuations, trading in underlying mutual funds, accounting control, and financial reporting for over 500 segregated funds.

The Accounting & Controls team within SFFM consists of three individuals.

They are accountable for the key controls on the valuation of the funds, reconciliations, reporting to Canadian Finance and Corporate, financial statements and notes for the Funds on our core investment platform, the coordination of various audits, and the compilation of taxable income for the Funds to support plan member tax reporting.

The Manager, Segregated Fund Accounting & Controls leads this team and reports to the Director, SFFM.


What will you do?

  • Responsible for the production of the GRS Segregated Funds Annual Report in English & French which includes managing the audit engagement with the external audit firm and ensuring the report complies with IFRS standards
  • Ensure appropriate financial reporting policies and processes are in place to support the internal control environment
  • Ensure corporate reporting requirements and deliverables are met on a timely basis
  • Responsible for the integrity, and financial close process, of the asset side of the Segregated Fund general ledger on a monthly basis
  • Ensure various accounting reconciliations are completed in compliance with Company standards and guidelines
  • Assist with the investigation of accounting reconciling items to ensure they are resolved
  • Responsible for providing tax information for each segregated fund to GRS Taxation which feeds member tax reporting and segregated fund trust returns
  • Participate in any adhoc projects which may include developing business requirements or system IT enhancements, testing, implementation and post implementation review
  • Development of accounting models and processes for unique funds and situations
  • Cultivate a positive and collaborative team environment
  • Responsible for the ongoing training and development of staff through mentoring and coaching

What do you need to succeed?

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA) with 5 years of demonstrated success in a people manager role
  • Ability to work independently and with mínimal supervision
  • Adaptable to changing priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in financial reporting and managing audit engagements
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and lead others
  • Highly motivated with the ability to consistently seek out improvements to current processes (continuously seeking to add value)
  • Investment Finance and/or Fund Accounting experience
  • Knowledge and experience with SAP is an asset
