    Reporting to the Director - Engineering Projects, this role performs engineering related work at the professional level managing the design, contract administration, and inspection of the City's capital construction program. The position works closely with consultants, contractors, City inspectors, administration staff, Operations and Maintenance staff, outside agencies, and members of the public.

    In this position, you will provide control and reporting over project scope, coordination, scheduling, budgeting, and finalization; prepare terms of reference for design and construction administration proposals from external consultants; evaluate proposals and recommends consultant selection; review and approve engineering design and drafting work performed by consultants; prepare and review specifications, cost estimates, plans and contract documents related to public works projects and checks similar data performed by others; evaluates tenders and recommends selection of contractor and ensures conformance of contractor's work to City standards and specifications; establishes and maintains effective working relations with a wide variety of internal and external contacts, including the public, in providing information and assistance on matters related to the work; prepares related written reports for supervisor and/or Director Engineering as required; and performs related work as required.

    Qualifications include University degree in Engineering with eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng), or senior E.I.T. and 3 to 5 years of Municipal infrastructure design and construction experience, with associated experience in project management and contract administration; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a Municipal public works setting as well as experience within an SAP, or computer-based work environment and the ability to work independently are preferred. Experience with PMWeb would be considered an asset. Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required.

    Hours of work: 70 hours bi-weekly; 8:00 AM to 4:45 PM with a nine-day fortnight (compressed) schedule.
