The Coordinator, Workplace Safety will be responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating,

administering and promoting the Corporation's health and safety programs to ensure compliance.

equivalent combination of relevant experience and formal education acceptable to the Town. They will have five

Registered Safety Professional Designation (CRSP). They will have applied, technical knowledge of workplace

health and safety legislation, regulations, safety standards and best practice, with the skills and ability to apply

experience and professional knowledge to specific problems, communicate effectively, and perform complex

decision-making.

Compensation includes an annual salary of $78,812 - $94,575, pension, and a comprehensive health and

wellness benefits package.

Position Objective
Responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, administering and promoting the Corporation's health and safety programs to ensure compliance.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, administer and promote the Corporation's health and safety program, corporate health and safety policy, safe work practices and training; monitor and evaluate safety performance and recommend/implement improvements.
  • Participate in regular inspections of workplaces, tools and equipment; conduct audits; identify and evaluate workplace hazards and recommend/implement control measures.
  • Participate in accident/incident investigations; compile and analyze incident reports and injury statistics; maintain safety records.
  • Proactively identify and address emerging health, safety and wellness issues; receive and respond to employee concerns; consult with managers on safety issues; recommend safety and wellness strategies.
  • Investigate health and safety complaints, make recommendations for resolution and ensure compliance
  • Conduct corporate training, orientation and safety information sessions of policies, programs and regulations in Health and Safety to staff and management, ensuring corporate regulatory training compliance.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver or arrange/broker regular, mandatory, job specific and due diligence safety training including supervisory, certification, WHMIS and first aid/CPR/AED.
  • Prepare agenda, schedule and attend meetings of the Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC); provide technical expertise/advice to the JHSCs and managers; follow-up on action items.
  • Develop/maintain relations/participate with counterparts in other municipalities, safe work associations, suppliers and consultants, communities of practice; act as corporate liaison with the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment, WSIB and other similar agencies and stakeholders on matters such as work refusals, investigations and inspections.
  • Participate in and/or lead the administration of WSIB claims, appeals and return to work matters.
  • Participate in and/or lead the return to work programs for employees who require workplace accommodation.

Administer the Town's Contractor Safety Program which includes:

  • Reviewing all submissions presented by various contractors with detailed scrutiny of all items requested by the Corporation
  • Recognizing and assessing WSIB reports as well as orders and directives from various legislative organizations in Ontario including the Ministry of Labour
  • Reviewing our online access to the contractor safety program with attention to changes, revisions, additions or elimination of information including safe work standards, training or policy changes
  • Meeting with the procurement team and affected managers to discuss and introduce changes to the program
  • Purchase/recommend the purchase of necessary safety related materials and supplies including ergonomic equipment, first aid stations/kits in accordance with procurement polic
