Lumenus Community Services is seeking a Major Gifts Officer, who will be reporting to the Strategic Director, Marketing and Fund Development.

The Major Gift Officer will manage a portfolio of 50-60 donors and prospects at the level of $10,000 plus to meet the needs of the organization and fund new program initiatives, as well as develop a planned giving program amongst major gift donors.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist with developing annual strategic fund development plan and the prioritizing of activities
  • Research and identification of prospects for the donor pyramid
  • Manage 50 moves per week
  • Manage 5060 prospects/donors simultaneously depending on complexity of relationship
  • Assist with the development of a planned giving program and the identification of planned giving prospects
  • Work with numerous internal managers, board members and staff on funding projects to identify the proposal content and effectively retrieve the pertinent information
  • Work with the Strategic Director, the Marketing and Fund Development team, and senior volunteers to develop major gift revenue annual objectives.
  • Provide project leadership for funding initiatives
  • Represent Lumenus externally in a professional manner
  • Compliance with AFP Donor Bill of Rights and CRA regulations
  • Ensure fund development is carried out in keeping with the organization's values, mission, vision and plans
  • Strict adherence to Lumenus policies and procedures
  • Adhere to the organizational health and safety policies and practices along with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.

This includes but is not limited to:
ensuring safe workplace practices, protecting the health and safety of themselves and others and maintaining cleanliness in the workplace

  • Assist with departmental oversight and project management
  • Meet proposal or report submission deadlines
  • Recording of donor moves/contacts in database
  • Read budgets and pull appropriate information to prepare donor proposals
  • In person and virtual meetings with donors/prospects
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • 57 years of fundraising experience
  • CFRE, or relevant postsecondary qualification preferred
  • Proven track record of success
  • Experience with major gifts at the $10k level
  • Experience developing a strategic annual major gift fundraising plan
  • Experience in planned giving
  • Experience with fundraising database preferably Raiser's Edge but also other databases providing foundation, corporate and individual donation information and Revenue Canada reports

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:


  • Ability to exercise professional judgment in conflictual and stress situations
  • Ability to balance demands and prioritize to deadlines and project management
  • Knowledge of online fundraising tools and social media
  • Efficiency using fundraising software and database management and analysis
  • Ability to identify, develop and implement internal funding projects and to succinctly communicate the case for support and proposals verbally and in writing and close donor solicitations
  • Excellent relationship builder, high energy, creative and enthusiastic
  • Proficiency in prospect identification
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in pipeline development and donor management including stewardship
  • Knowledge and proficiency in fundraising activitiesprospecting, proposal and grant writing, face to face and on line solicitation, stewardship
  • Working knowledge of fund development software and data management
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Demonstrated project leadership and management skills
  • Ability to close donor solicitations, meet and exceed targets
  • Current knowledge of best practices related to top tier fundraising organizations
  • Diplomacy and confidentiality required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Satisfactory clearance under the Criminal Reference Check process
  • May be required to work evenings or weekends to attend meetings or support fundraising events.
