Summary of Duties:


Reporting to the Manager, Research and Education Communications, this position is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications initiatives and campaigns that support Research and Education priorities at Sunnybrook, while stewarding the brand and reputation.


Primary responsibilities:


  • Develop and execute communications strategies that increase understanding of the hospital's value and its mission as a health care, teaching and research centre.
  • Work with Sunnybrook experts to create compelling content in a variety of formats, including press releases, infographics, written news stories, social media videos, expert profiles and Q&As.
  • Provide communications support to internal stakeholders, including the development of messaging and support for events and key initiatives.
  • Support communications team with proactive media relations and inbound requests.
  • Provide guidance and counsel on external issues impacting the health care sector, specific to research and education priorities.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders and key partners.

Qualifications/Skills:


  • Postsecondary degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
  • Minimum five years' experience in the field of communications.
  • Experience or education in science or education communications considered an asset.
  • A strategic and creative thinker who can get things done under pressure despite multiple competing demands.
  • Excellent writing, editing and public speaking skills.
  • A track record of success working in a comprehensive communications program in a highly complex, multilayered, intellectually charged work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement strategic communications plans.
  • Experience with special events planning and coordination.
  • Knowledge of traditional media and social media platforms to support public relations objectives.
  • Experience with issues and crisis communications, and ability to handle sensitive communication situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, flexible and responsive attitude, professional image and teamoriented style.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both as a team member and on your own with mínimal supervision.
  • Selfstarter and creative problem solver who is able to generate significant results using limited resources.
  • Strong timemanagement skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fastpaced environment.
Flexibility to work weekends and evenings when necessary.
