The Children and Youth with Complex Care Needs (CYCCN) is a program of Provincial Services Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and provides residential, non-residential, outreach and ancillary services through intervention and stabilization plans for children and youth with Complex Care Needs.


The CYCCN target population consists of children and youth in British Columbia in the care of the Director under Child and Family Community Services Act (CFCSA) with significant behavioural, developmental, trauma-related as well as psychiatric difficulties, ages 8 to 16 who require significant intervention and are unable to reside in community or home.

Through a multi-disciplinary approach, the program's objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to stabilize and build capacity employing Complex Care Intervention plans for these challenging children and youth through a "closer to home" focus.


As a Child Case Worker, you will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary Residential Care Stabilization and Intervention Team.

In coordination with the CYCCN Outreach Clinician and/or the Program Psychologist and other agency professionals as well as community agencies and professionals, you will provide a range of treatment services, including:
behavioral stabilization and intervention (using Applied Behavioral Analysis) and provide as needed education to children, youth and families. In addition, you will liaison with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other MCFD programs.


In this role, you will be required to work a variety of shifts covering the 24 hour period the unit is in operation - all patterns include overnight shifts.

The possible hours of work will involve a rotating shift work pattern; you will know your monthly schedule two weeks ahead of time.

You will be required to be on call and fully available.

Limited availability is not accepted and the hours of work may be between 4 hrs to 12 hrs a shift on days, evenings or nights on week days and week-ends, up to 35 hrs a week.

Notice for shifts will be given during established call out times each day.


Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Bachelor's degree in Child and Youth Care, or comparable degree at Bachelors level.

NOTE: If you currently have a valid Driver's Licence in Canada, you must acquire a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence immediately.

  • Minimum of two (2) years recent experience (within the past 5 years) working in a clinical capacity in a school or hospital setting, ministry or resource setting or a contracted clinical service.
  • Minimum of six months experience in a residential setting.
  • Experience working with children, youth or developmentally delayed individuals.
  • Experience working directly with youth who have challenging behaviours, including violence and aggression.
  • Minimum of six months experience in a residential setting.
