    An exciting opportunity awaits you with the Provincial Schools Authority working in the Ministry of Education, Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf in Belleville. We require a caring, innovative, experienced, and forward-thinking educator to perform the role of Principal. The Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf is a day and student lodging school with a rich heritage and longstanding history of educating students who are Deaf and/or hard of hearing. As a Principal for this school, you will promote the education, social and emotional growth of the students within the school.

    You will:

    • Be a caring, innovative, and experienced educator and leader with an in-depth knowledge of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf and hard of hearing students.
    • Effectively manage financial, human, and material resources.
    • Support student success by ensuring that the quality of educational programming and curriculum at the school is compliant with the Ontario curriculum requirements.
    • Support and lead change initiatives.
    • Influence others to adopt a desired course of action.
    • Build relationships between various staff groups and lead data-driven decision making and progress monitoring.
    • Lead others to adopt a desired course of action for student achievement and well-being.
    • Work co-operatively and collaboratively with stakeholders to meet mutual goals.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.

    What we are looking for:

    Qualifications:

    • Valid certificate of registration and qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers.
    • Principal Qualifications Part 1 & 2 required.
    • Teaching Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

    Skills & Abilities:

    • Bilingual fluency in ASL and English.
    • Experience in a leadership position.
    • Excellent knowledge of the Education Act/associated regulations and the Ontario Curriculum.
    • Demonstrated competencies to provide leadership to staff, students, parents and community partners as per the Ontario Leadership Framework.
    • Understanding and application of ASL-English bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural pedagogy and assessment of Deaf and hard of hearing students.
    • Ability to share vision and to be accountable for the bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural instructional program in the school. Understanding of elementary and secondary panels is essential.
    • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking skills.
    • Ability to build a collaborative school culture with staff, students and parents.
