Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the business unit Purchasing Team in the acquisition of goods and services and to support daily business unit requirements.

Further, the position will have dual reporting responsibility to Corporate Supply Chain & Procurement as it relates to Winpak corporate relates strategic goals and initiatives.

The Purchasing Manager requires strong collaboration skills while working closely with personnel at all levels in the operating groups of Winpak.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Oversee purchase of all materials and services with special emphasis on raw materials as identified through our product structures (ex. resins, films, adhesives/coating, and solvents etc.).
  • Lead and/or participate in key/strategic supplier contract negotiations that are business unit related.
  • Maximize positive cash flow by establishing optimal raw material inventory levels without impacting manufacturing operations.
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure any / all concerns are satisfactorily and expediently resolved with effective corrective actions implemented.
  • Develop and sustain effective valueadded relationships with strategic suppliers.
  • Perform financial analysis related to sourcing decisions and supplier management.
  • Develop and disseminate market knowledge to support / facilitate business decisions.
  • Maintain a strategic awareness of domestic and international raw material and feedstock availability and pricing.
  • Ensure appropriate justification of purchases and services and develop systems to monitor and maintain inventories.
  • Interface closely with R&D and Manufacturing to support initiatives and align business unit goals and objectives.
  • In conjunction with Technical, support Corporate Supply Chain initiatives to identify and qualify secondary sources of supply to ensure uninterrupted supply of material and mitigate risk.
  • Work closely with engineering on capital projects and provide the necessary support to optimize the successful completion and budgetary requirements.
  • Support maintenance department by ensuring materials are supplied on a timely basis to prevent unnecessary downtime on equipment.
  • Attend meetings affecting purchase of raw materials and manufacturing equipment.
  • Coach and mentor purchasing team including annual performance reviews, development plans and overall coaching team on competencies to optimize performance.
  • Resolve day to day issues related to the supply of all purchased goods and services.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports for business unit._ _
  • Ensure supply agreements and inventory levels support a 24x7 operation for all goods and services
  • Ensure appropriate justification of purchases and services and develop systems to monitor and maintain these inventories.
  • Develop and monitor compliance to purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Support Corporate Supply chain regarding contract negotiations or renegotiations.
  • Support Corporate Supply Chain and Procurement regarding strategic Corporate initiatives and objectives
  • Maintain a strategic awareness of domestic and international availability of materials and pricing. Perform supplier risk assessments and mitigation plans to ensure supply.
  • Ensure the adherence of the receiving function which includes the receipt of all goods in compliance to purchase orders and to accounts payable for invoice clearance and payment.
  • Ensure adherence to Winpak Values and holds team accountable accordingly.
  • Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication within the department and Company. Interact with all levels of the operation in support of Winpak's TQI program.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 and SQF 2000 standards.
  • Ensure compliance and controls to support WHMIS regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:


  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) designation preferred.
  • 7 to 10 years related experience in strategically sourcing in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning systems
  • Able to develop technical skills with regards to raw materials.
  • Proven negotiating skills.
  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the company in a professional and respectful manner
  • Able to lead and motivate others in a team environment.
  • Able to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills.
