Job Summary Statement:


The Maintenance & Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing all building-related activities and may be hands-on with repairs and maintenance.

The role is responsible for preserving the good condition of infrastructure and ensure that facilities are safe and well-functioning so our employees can work under the best conditions.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


  • Optimize the use of space and equipment while reducing operating costs including performing analysis and forecasting on current and future needs. Identifies opportunities to for continuous improvement
  • Plan and coordinate all installations (telecommunications, heat, electricity etc.) and refurbishments complying with negotiated lease agreements
  • Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health & safety standards, environmental regulations and local building code and bilaw requirements
  • Inspect buildings' structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations
  • Conduct minor fixes and repairs (e.g. locks, doors, drywall, toliets, lighting, etc.) and install appliances and equipment
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems (e.g. electrical, HVAC, control panels, etc.) and check functionality of safety systems (e.g. fire alarm, security systems)
  • Inspects and repairs electrical, plumbing, equipment or janitorial problems
  • Review utilities consumption and strive to minimize costs
  • Supervise all facilities staff (Sanitation, Maintenance, Security, etc.) and external contractors
  • Control activities like parking space allocation, waste disposal, building security etc.
  • Allocate office space according to needs
  • Manage insurance plans and service contracts
  • Maintain financial and nonfinancial records
  • Other duties as assigned

Health & Safety

  • Takes every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker.
  • Conducts regular workplace inspections, conducts/participates in safety talks,
  • Actively participates in accident/incident investigations
  • Identifying and correcting unsafe acts or conditions
  • Works in compliance with the OH&S Act including proper use and wear of personal protective equipment

Job Specifications—Skills and Competencies:


  • Proven experience in Maintenance
  • Wellversed in technical/engineering operations and facilities management best practices
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and finance principles
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and listening)
  • Proven ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
  • Must be a selfstarter and a team player.
  • Strong leader with excellent organizational skills, efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional computer knowledge with respect to Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of, and works in compliance with, HACCP and SQF programs.
