Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centred clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.


Position Overview:


Provides current and competent clinical care while treating patients in multiple venues; including but not limited to: medical facilities in Manitoba, ground ambulance, ground patient support vehicle, air ambulance.


Functions in harsh and unusual environmental conditions, including extreme weather and unconventional modes of transportation ensure personal and patient safety at all times.


Responsible for the provision of basic and advanced level patient care to adult, pediatric and neonatal/obstetric patients during interfacility transport, including provincial, regional and multi-sites.

Responsible for full patient care of patients requiring accompaniment during diagnostic procedures, therapeutic interventions and/or other appointments.


May assume responsibility for and provide care to single or multiple patients during interfacility transport, in accordance with Patient Transport Program protocols.

May be assigned temporary duties when provincial needs arise.
Works collaboratively with EMS, paramedics, dispatch, hospital site staff and flight nurses.


Experience:


  • Minimum 35 years' experience as a Respiratory Therapist, with extensive experience in critical care, emergency, anaesthesia or ground/air patient transportation.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in airway management, including tracheal intubation for adults, pediatrics and neonates, required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate):


  • Entrytopractice academic credential in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited Canadian program or a MARRT approved equivalent, if internationally educated, is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or another field of study with a relevant major is preferred.

Special Training:


  • Current BCLS is required.
  • ACLS provider is preferred.
  • Current ITLS, PALS, NRP and CAMATA is preferred.
  • Maintenance of current certification in the proceeding courses is required.
  • Maintaining continuing education credits in the related area of practice is required

Certification/Licensure/Registration:


  • Current license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the Province of Manitoba (MARRT).
  • Must maintain current license to practice in Manitoba (in good standing with no restrictions).
  • Must be a member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Registered Respiratory Therapists.
  • Must maintain personal liability insurance as recommended by licensing / regulatory body.
  • Must maintain Aeromedical Licensure.
  • Must have valid class 5 driver's license

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Ability to work independently with limited direction and no direct supervision of daily function
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to utilize independence and flexibility in planning daily workload.
  • Maintains currency in therapeutic practice of Respiratory Therapy.
