Case Manager, Youth Employment Bootcamp


Location:
Tong Louie YMCA Ave, Surrey), Robert Lee YMCA (955 Burrard St., Vancouver)


Terms:
Temporary, Full-Time


Hours: 35 hours per week


Start Date:
As soon as possible


End Date:
October 27, 2023 (Maternity Coverage - position may be extended


Salary:
$54,476 annualy + benefits and 15 paid vacation days

Supervisor, Youth Employment Bootcamp


Nature and Scope:


The YMCA Youth Employment Bootcamp program is designed to support youth with barriers to employment to develop fundamental life, social and employability skills.

This occurs through one to one case management support, participants can access a series of workshops and training sessions followed by a practical work experience.


This position has the primary responsibility of working directly with participants of the program as a one to one case manager to support the individuals attachment to the labour market.

The Case Manager supports participants to identify what there needs, strengths and goals are, then the Case Manager can navigate what supports are best needed to a for the individual to achieve theie goal.


The position will also involve facilitation, outreach to the community in order to recruit and support participants and employers, Additionally, the position will be responsible for managing a caseload of partipants and maintain up to date electronic documentation of services provided to meet funder contractual requirements.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Assists participants in assessing their job skills for employment positions
  • Facilitates and develops inclassroom preemployment, job search, career workshops and presentations
  • Support multibarriered youth with preemployment supports such as housing, mental health, addictions, income supports, food security, hygiene & clothing and addressing other barriers to securing and sustaining employment
  • Coordinates and supports job placements for program participants
  • Provides labour market and community resource information
  • Maintains contact with employers during the participants' employment and reports results to appropriate staff
  • Monitors participant performance on the job and counsels participants when job performance is not satisfactory; works with participants to improve job performance and gain necessary job skills, or reviews other employment options
  • Prepares forms and reports related to placement activities
  • Tracks participant activity and progress data
  • Initiates and maintains ongoing contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement
  • Explains the benefits and employment support services provided by programs to employers, including addressing employer's needs
  • Researches internet, agencies, and other resources for job leads
  • Locates jobs for participants who have successfully completed training programs
  • Matches job skills with applicant qualifications
  • Develops and executes creative outreach strategies to recruit program participants
  • Travels across Vancouver and Lower Mainland for meetings

Qualifications:


  • Post-Secondary Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working with youth or persons facing barriers due to challenges with mental illness & substance use including concurrent disorders
  • Established relationships within the local business community and proven track record in job placement recruitment
  • Experience with developing and facilitating community based programming and services
  • Strong facilitation skills with proven experience leading preemployment, job search, career information workshops and presentations to a youth audience
  • Awareness of local youth resources and willingness to develop community supports
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and multitask in high demand environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills


  • Computer proficient

  • Microsoft Office (including Office 365, Word, and Excel)
  • High degree of independence and initiative within a team environment
  • Proven responsibility to coordinate tasks and work as part of a team
  • CDP or related certification is an asset
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR-C Certificate required, can be obtained within 30 days of start date
  • Requires access to a vehicle to travel to meetings with employer and community partners
  • The YMCA has implemented a mandatory COVID19 vaccination policy requiring all staff and volunteers to be vaccinated as per the timelines set out by the province one dose by September 13 and second dose by October 24.
