_CBT Mental Health Abuse and Addictions Counsellor_

General Job Description:


The General Counsellor will assist clients to meet their needs and enable them to utilize agency or community services to achieve their optimal level of health through cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling, education, and the use of appropriate resources either independently or through a combination of any of the above.


Qualifications:

MSW or equivalent preferred, BSW or equivalent required.

Registered, or eligible for registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, CRPO or other regulating body; certified in CBT; certified in Suicide Intervention.

Knowledge and training in the area of trauma and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. Ability to work from an anti racist anti oppression framework with a commitment to being client centered. This position reports directly to the Clinical Director.


Job Status:

Full Time Permanent. This position is contingent upon ongoing approved funding through the North

East Local Health Integration Network and/or other sources. A valid driver's license and access to a road

worthy vehicle are requirements of this position.


Responsibilities:


  • To provide direct social work service and counselling to clients and/or their families entering the general program
  • To determine and evaluate the clients social, psychological, financial, cultural, and family situation and total needs to provide a comprehensive treatment plan
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with community health, welfare, and social agencies
  • To maintain accurate client records and statistical reports as required
  • To maintain the confidentiality of all client information
  • To provide intake / assessment and counselling to individuals who are referred / selfreferred to the agency regardless of program stream if scheduling permits
  • To provide individual, couple, family, or group counselling
  • To engage in case management and case referral with other community organizations.
  • To develop educational programming that addresses the client needs as well as the needs of the community
  • Maintaining current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, policy and legislative requirements and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate
  • Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and standards
  • To engage in regular supervision with the Clinical Supervisor
  • To complete an annual performance evaluation, including establishment of professional goals
  • To educate staff in other agency programs about the general program
  • To educate the community about the general program as well as the agency
  • To attend and participate in staff and agency meetings
  • To work as a team member
  • Perform any and all other duties that may be required from time to time as requested by the Executive Director.
This position is part of the bargaining unit.
