    Position Overview

    The Occupational Therapist works with clients to assess, intervene, plan services, and design interventions to help achieve occupational performance objectives, support healthy lifestyles, prevent illness and disability, and promote health. Continuous professional development, research, and promotion of occupational therapy are key to providing high-quality client care.

    Experience

    • Recent and relevant clinical experience preferred.

    Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

    • Entry-to-practice academic credential in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Canadian university program or equivalent approved by the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM).
    • Successful completion of relevant continuing professional education in the designated clinical area is desirable.

    Certification/Licensure/Registration

    • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM) is mandatory; if provisionally registered, the incumbent must pass the COTM examination to continue employment.
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training must be in line with applicable policy.
    • Membership in the Manitoba Society of Occupational Therapists (MSOT) and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) is preferred.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Preference will be given to applicants proficient in an Indigenous language and knowledgeable in Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
    • Must be able to establish and maintain positive relationships.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential.
    • Ability to collaborate with other disciplines.
    • Demonstrated professional judgment and proactive approach.
    • Effective organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
    • Familiarity with evidence-based practice.
    • Can work independently and as part of a team.
    • Understanding of various aspects of patient care.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Openness to learn new concepts and best practices in healthcare.
    • Basic computer proficiency as needed.

    Physical Requirements

    • Good physical and mental health is a must.
    • Need to demonstrate sufficient strength, agility, and coordination for therapeutic techniques.
    • Potential exposure to various elements like infectious diseases, body fluids, noise, and emotional stress.
    • May face challenging situations with clients or colleagues.
    • Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends occasionally.

    This role requires a recent clear Criminal Records Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. Candidates must cover any associated charges. A security check is valid within six months of employment commencement.

    Please note that one cannot hold multiple positions totaling more than 1.0 EFT within the WRHA legal entity. The entity includes various healthcare facilities.
