The Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies is located in downtown Toronto, the perfect location to experience and participate in all kinds of performance.

We hold high standards for the students in rich academic programs, both graduate and undergraduate.

Our centre is in the process of moving into a newly designed facility in the Laidlaw Wing of University College.

In addition to the Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse, we will be moving into newly designed theatre, studio and seminar spaces that will enrich the creative and intellectual exploration of our students and faculty, all supported by our technical and production staff.

With a combination of seminar courses and practical streams, our centre emphasizes the integration of academic and practical work in our holistic pedagogical approach to classical through contemporary theatre and performance, and a range of emerging research paradigms in theatre and performance studies.


Reporting to the Director of the Centre, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and implementing the Centre's strategic planning and directions, including managing the operations, human resources and finances.

The incumbent will work closely with the Director in planning and establishing administrative policies and procedures, and will be responsible for the implementation of these policies.

This role will also be responsible for the daily management of the Centre's administrative office.

This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto's Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline


Qualifications

EDUCATION:


  • University degree in business, economics, and/or financial management or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum 5 years' related and progressive experience in financial management and administration in a similar environment.
  • Experience building and developing effective administrative systems and processes.
  • Experience working with and interpreting policies and procedures pertaining to budget, finance, human resources, and academic administration.
  • Experience leading, supervising and motivating staff members.
  • Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Demonstrated success in the design and implementation of new initiatives and processes.

SKILLS:


  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet.
  • Demonstrated experience with FIS and HRIS, or similar related systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

OTHER:


  • Ability to manage proactively. Strong leadership including ability to foster confidence and motivation in staff and to develop cooperative, collegial working relationships with a broad range of University constituencies.
  • Proven ability to set priorities and work schedules.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability within a changing environment.
  • Service oriented with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and a variety of complex projects simultaneously; excellent time management and organizational skills; proven effectiveness in the development of administrative systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment. Uses discretion and confidentiality in working to deadlines with highly sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and in response to changing priorities.
