London Cares is a not-for-profit agency aimed at building relationships and supporting those who are experiencing homelessness making it possible to help move some of the most vulnerable people in our community from street to home.

Through a low barrier, compassionate approach we build relationships and are advocates for those we work with to build bridges and connections to the resources they need in support of their success and well-being.

London Cares programming continues to grow and expand to meet the needs of the community we serve. We are seeking a
Resting Space Worker to join our team. This is a full-time position, generally working a minimum of 35 hours per week working day and overnight shifts. Your shifts will be approximately 10-12 hours in length. The schedule will include weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Resting Space, the responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Work with the outreach team to coordinate the daily referrals, intake, and screening of individuals.
  • Be responsible for daytoday operations of the space, including opening and closing duties.
  • Review Resting Space guidelines and consents with new referrals upholding the principles of dignity and respect.
  • Create a welcoming environment by engaging and establishing rapport with individuals who come into the space.
  • Work as a resource for individuals in the space, particularly around housing, support, and advocacy.
  • Supervise the wellbeing of individuals and make referrals or engage other services as necessary.
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration practices with your shift partner, the outreach team, and community partners.
  • Use intervention and mediation skills to defuse conflicts if they can be resolved amongst the individuals.
  • Daily input into databases and completion of incident reports as necessary.
  • Perform light housekeeping and maintenance tasks to ensure a clean work environment.
  • This role will require you to work a rotational schedule of day and overnight shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Postsecondary education in the field of social work, human services, addictions, or mental health; or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and marginalized populations.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex mental health/addictions preferably in a residential setting.
  • Training in nonviolent crisis intervention and ASIST considered an asset.
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector police record check.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of community resources in the City of London and system navigation will be an asset to this role.
  • A willingness to uphold a lowbarrier approach and understanding of harm reduction, as well as housing first principles.
