The Opportunity
The Leisure Travel Consultant is a sales driven role.
Success depends on the ability to promote Merit Travel's brand while cultivating and retaining client relationships by providing a unique travel experience which meets the client's lifestyle.
The Travel Consultant will continuously demonstrate current knowledge of the travel industry by offering insights and exclusive offers on a wide variety of destinations.
It is expected the individual will arrange transportation and accommodations for all travels including providing accurate itineraries.Full understanding and active participation in fulfilling Merit's business goals is expected by demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness within the scope of responsibilities.
Any opportunity for promotion or advancement will be determined by the performance appraisal based on the successful fulfilment of duties and responsibilities.
How You Will Be Spending Your Time
- Convert potential clients into actual clients by following sales methods and closing techniques (determine travel needs; destination, travel dates, financial considerations and accommodations required, and make recommendations based on budgetary restrictions etc)
- Provide superior customer service and salesmanship, qualifying your clients in order to match them with personalized recommendations tailored uniquely for them
- Sell travel services such as custombuilt itineraries (domestic/international air travel, rail, hotel, car rentals, cruises etc.) to individuals, families and groups
- Continuously follow up with existing clients to establish loyal client base
- Responsible for keeping current with all airline rules/regulations, supplier updates, industry trends and news, and general current affairs (e.g., attend training sessions, networking events and develop expertise in assigned products/vendors and destinations, etc)
- Responsible for attaining required proficiency/maintaining high level of expertise with all Merit Travel tools such as ClientLinq, Avaya, Microsoft Office 36
- Advise clients regarding passports, vaccinations, visas, foreign currency, travel insurance, and any other information as required
- Maintain a professional attitude that is representative of Merit at all times when dealing with internal/external stakeholders
- Reach or exceed targets and goals
- Maintain accurate files and records utilizing software provided
- Play an active role in Goal Setting and Review meetings with Manager
- Attend all required product training sessions
- Work in a team environment to provide assistance to colleagues and clients as required
The Skills, Experience and Requirements You Need to Be Successful
- Travel and Tourism Diploma
- 5+ years' experience selling travel
- Advanced proficiency in Windows/MS Office/ Amadeus and ClientLinq
- TICO certified
- Good communication skills
- Ability to respond to change and problem solve
- Ability to multitask
- Existing client base (would be an asset)
Working Conditions
- Remote Office (appropriate internet connection is required)
- Work Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00am5:00pm (EST)
- Availability to work weekends and attend consumer events, when required.
