    What You Get To Do


    As a Resident Maintenance Technician-Trainer, you will split your time between working as a Resident Maintenance Technician (RMT) and as a Trainer for new employees. As an RMT you will provide industrial electrical/mechanical expertise and be part of a team that maximizes equipment utilization and efficiency. You will have knowledge in electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated equipment and robotic systems, including 480vac, 240vac, 120vac, and 48vdc, 24vdc, VFDs, and PLCs (Siemens preferred). As a Trainer you will focus on the development and implementation of trainings that ensure proper and safe utilization of KNAPP systems. We require advanced knowledge in exercising discretion and sound judgment with regard to teammates, time management and services provided as part of your daily routine.

    • Be a team member and provide first-class maintenance support to Customer on operation and maintenance of automated storage and retrieval systems, and storage and picking systems installed at the Customer's location.

    • Have proven experience dealing with electro-mechanical faults and preventative maintenance operations as a support technician. You are eager and determined to succeed, demonstrating safety consciousness in all activities with a track record of problem-solving and task completion. You may be required to respond to emergency calls. Working on weekends may be required and will be structured accordingly to provide forward planning.

    • Complying with defined processes in the area of responsibility and department within deadlines, striving for maximum quality.

    • Creating and maintaining a positive company image for the customer.

    • Developing and conducting high quality and cost-effective KNAPP service and product training courses within the established schedule and budget.

    • Actively promoting all activities in the area of responsibility.


    Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Resident Maintenance Technician

    • Rectify electro-mechanical faults and provide specialist technical assistance as a support technician.

    • Respond to emergency calls on Customer sites.

    • Be safety conscious in all activities; demonstrate ownership of problems and promote successful completion of tasks.

    • Provide first-class response to Customer, aiming for a first-time-right outcome where practical.

    • Provide emergency breakdown and specialist maintenance support.

    • Handle setup and calibration of precision automation equipment.

    • Build strong working relationships with Customer and their operational agents to enable KNAPP to provide superior service.

    • Achieve performance in terms of output, speed of response, quality of repair and workmanship.

    • Provide experience and expertise in the installation of conveyor and precision automation equipment.

    • Maintain quality of service through effective communication with customers.

    • Ensure reports are well written and legible.

    • Execute site quality procedures, safety procedures, and statutory procedures.

    • Participate in regular meetings with Maintenance Shift Supervisor or Site Manager to discuss activities, or report to Resident Business Manager if no on-site accountability.

    • Provide specialist maintenance service support to the Customer's installed system.

    • Ensure spare parts usage issues are logged with the Knapp Spare Parts team.

    • Ensure proper care and maintenance of tooling and equipment.

    • Provide flexibility and best use of skills and capabilities.

    • Ensure timesheets and documents are accurate and legible; submit biweekly for approval.

    • Experience in mechanical strip-down/re-assembly, basic field wiring, machine calibration and system testing.

    • Ability to work against a timeframe to complete reactive repairs.

    • Interact with on-site management, keeping them informed of repair and maintenance progression and addressing concerns professionally.

    • Show hands-on ownership of issues to achieve quick time resolution.

    • Assess health and safety considerations and carry out risk assessments.

    • Mechanical aptitude, including ability to read assembly drawings.

    • Ability to operate hand tools and assemble parts onto equipment.

    • Ability to follow setup instructions, assembly drawings, and checklists.

    • Strong attention to detail and exceptional follow-up skills.

    • Excellent communication and customer service skills with internal and external Customers.

    • Computer literate with basic Microsoft Office skills.

    • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing role requirements.

    • Appreciation of cultural diversity.

    • Perform other duties as required.


    Trainer

    • Conduct training courses for customers and employees within the corresponding specialty area; assist with development of interactive educational material and practical training programs.

    • Responsible for training/certification of technicians.

    • Responsible for documenting conducted training courses.

    • Adopt continual improvement process (CIP) to drive cost savings and process improvements.

    • Participate in training courses and further personal education in specialty areas such as installations, startups, and maintenance services.


    What You Have

    • Degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.

    • 3 - 8 years of verifiable progressive experience as a Maintenance Repairman, Maintenance Electrician, Machine Repairman, or Industrial Maintenance Engineer.

    • Demonstrated experience in repairs on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

    • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/German preferred but not required.

    • Extensive experience in equipment maintenance, modifications and design preferred.

    • Strong problem-solving capabilities.

    • Talented and committed to providing unique interpretation or analysis of systems to customers.

    • Process-oriented mentality.

    • Theoretical and operational experience in repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of PLC-based machinery, highly automated and robotic equipment and control systems.

    • Network equipment interfaces a plus.

    • Hands-on experience and a team player committed to improving processes.

    • Experience in reducing costs through processes and efficiencies.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    • Good knowledge of KNAPP products and system areas is advantageous.

    • Experience with customer training courses (preferred).


    Working Conditions and Environment

    • Basic technical understanding.

    • Weekends and overtime as required by work.

    • Travel required up to 50%.

    • Authorization to work in the U.S. and/or Canada.

    • Passport or ability to obtain passport.

    • Professional etiquette is required at all times.

    • Physical requirements include sitting for long periods, standing, squatting, walking, climbing a ladder, speaking, visual acuity, finger dexterity, listening, reaching, and lifting up to pounds.
