Resource Consultant

Location:
Toronto, ON


Position Type:
Fixed Term, Full-time (37.5 hr./week, 16-month contract or secondment)


This position involves working with, and providing support to a variety of licensed childcare programs, staff and families regarding children with extra support needs who have been referred to the
ECB program for service. This includes individual consultation, modelling, coaching and participation in the identification and development of individual support plans; providing program consultation, workshops/training.

Flexibility in terms of work hours is required as some evening work may be necessary.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Service Needs Assessment and Planning:

  • Review child development and family/childcare/school information
  • Coordinate individual assessment of child's strengths and needs within community setting.
  • Identify goals and terms of service delivery
  • Facilitate appropriate internal and/or external referrals as needed
  • Implementation of Screening tools
  • Facilitate of service plan meetings; establish framework for ongoing monitoring, review and transition plans
  • Facilitate and participate in client related meetings (case conferences, professional consultations)
  • Develop Service Plan Agreements, Individual Consultation Reports, Individual Support Plans for children in consultation with child care staff, parents and other professionals, and/or multidisciplinary teams, to promote inclusion of the child in the program
  • Complete Visit Summary, outlining ongoing visit recommendations

Child Care:

  • Consult with staff regarding the identified needs of the child
  • Assist staff in developing and implementing effective techniques, programs and or strategies

Family Support:

  • Provide information to parents/caregivers to facilitate child development in various areas including but not exclusive to: infant stimulation, child development, parentchild interaction, behaviour management and strategies
Capacity Building

  • Support the understanding of early identification skills in children within their setting
  • Develop and deliver training to licensed child care programs and staff on a variety of issues

Community Service Involvement:

  • Provide information to the family and facilitate linkages with the appropriate community resources which may include but is not limited to: recreational programs, childcare/nursery programs, Toronto school boards, treatment centres, child welfare agencies, etc.
  • Provide training to community at large (City Wide Training, EarlyOn, etc.) within the ECB partnership

Service Co-ordinations:

  • Coordinate services within the agency and with external team members (that includes parent(s), caregivers, schools, childcare or other service providers.
  • Meet regularly with team members to develop, monitor, review and reevaluate service needs as necessary
  • Facilitate referrals to other professionals, e.g. psychological consultations, developmental assessments, occupational therapy, psychiatry, hearing, vision, speech and language services, etc.
  • Participate in educational conferences, interagency and family case conferences, professional associations support group networks, agency committees/subcommittees, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A minimum education of an Early Childhood Education diploma combined with graduation from Resource Teacher Certificate Program or equivalency with 5 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience in providing consultative support to children with extra support needs in early childhood settings; working with childcare centre staff, families, school staff, community resource staff
  • A member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (Registered Early Childhood Educator)
  • Able to work flex hours, including some evenings
  • A valid Ontario's drivers' license and access to a personal vehicle is preferred

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, time management, clinical judgement, problemsolving skills; ability to consult and work collaboratively with clients and stakeholders.
  • Promotes inclusive practices in the community
  • Ability to identify, plan and implement intervention strategies for children with extra support needs including ASD, ADHD, social/emotional trauma, academic, developmental, speech and language, concerns
