Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communications & Initiatives, and working closely with the Strategic Leader, Equity Diversity and Inclusion, this position will focus on providing research, communication strategies, tool/resource development, data & web management, partner consultations & liaising with relevant division(s) to develop training materials on the use of tools/resources for City divisions and the Corporation. A significant component of the job will be to support the Council committee on Combating Racism, Discrimination and Hatred; support divisions in implementing direction coming from project reports and their recommendations, for example, the Black Caucus Alliance report "First Steps"; City Asset Naming; Anti Racism Anti Oppression Strategy; EDI Progress Report etc.
Also requires on going support to the Employee Equity Advisory Committee (EEAC); the Employee Resrouce Groups (ERGs); as well as day to day work to promote and entrench EDI in the Corporation. As a key member of SC&I, the incumbent will apply an equity lens to all its work and work in close collaboration with the Strategic Leader, Diversity and Inclusion.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Be a resource to City divisions/Council Committees to facilitate effective implementation of any project report and its recommendations
• Keep the community and divisions engaged and informed of the progress
• In consultation with the Strategic Leader D&I, prepare final reports for Council
• Support, through research, the development of background materials for relevant EDI resources for the Corporation
• Document emerging trends/best practices on EDI
• Find opportunities for partnering with divisions/external groups on EDI based projects, campaigns, initiatives
• Research, develop and disseminate measurable EDI KPIs and other impact assessment tools to support EDI work at the City,
• Develop communication/implementation strategies with the manager overseeing to disseminate EDI related resources to the Corporation including innovative/user friendly learning tools
• Use the principles of equitable community engagement to conduct consultations as and when required
• Support awareness of community engagement principles and activities when dealing with third party vendors working on behalf of the City (as and when required) and divisions
• Support the Strategic Leaders, D&I and Community Engagement to develop robust, EDI based community engagement strategies focusing on equity deserving communities
• Assist in the development of an Equitable Engagement Charter and coordinated corporate framework
• Work in collaboration with relevant divisions to promote the knowledge and use of the EDI Dashboard across the Corporation
• Research/implement best practices around data collection and its use in promoting EDI
• Manage the EDI webpage on Inside Mississauga and the External site for timely and relevant information
• Track back-end data for usage/content preference in order to refine content
• Work with the Strategic Leader and other colleagues in SCI to continue to build Equity Talks as a key e-learning tool for the Corporation
Skills and Qualifications
• University degree in a relevant field of Social Science
• Demonstrated understanding of key EDI concepts
• Municipal experience an asset
• Demonstrated experience in conducting EDI based benchmarking research
• Demonstrated experience in creating/managing innovative EDI tools (including online/web based) to disseminate awareness of EDI
• Experience in project management/implementation within a corporate setting including writing corporate reports
• Experience and understanding of equity-based engagement principles/methodologies
• Demonstrated experience advancing EDI objectives within a corporate setting
• Minimum 5 years of experience working in positions advancing EDI
