Job Summary

  • Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborates with faculty, staff and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and studentcentric approach to learning and academic success and act as a professional resource in the delivery of evidencebased student enrolment, wellness, development and academic support programs and services. Reporting to the Director, Communications & Marketing, Student Affairs, the Communications Specialist will lead studentfocused communications and marketing for Student Health and Wellness at Dalhousie, promoting information and awareness of services, programs, events, initiatives, and educational resources related to the health and wellness of Dalhousie students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute and evaluate communications and marketing strategies and plans, working collaboratively with the Student Health & Wellness and the Student Affairs Communications teams.
  • Produce communications and marketing materials, and regularly update digital content and resources, ensuring information is accurate, inclusive, and delivered in a studentfocused format. Create content for social media and Dal Student Life platforms, and supervise student staff in their work.
  • Act as a communications advisor for teams across the university to ensure consistency and accuracy of health and wellness information for students. Develop tools and materials to communicate the unit's services and supports to faculty, staff and others who may influence and impact students' success.
  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive annual calendar of Health & Wellness priorities and initiatives, to improve administrative and communications planning efforts.
  • Work with units to support the development and implementation of assessment plans for programs and services related to Student Health & Wellness. Assist staff in effectively conveying assessment results through the use of data visualization methods. Communicate results to stakeholders to ensure ongoing program refinement is in place.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field plus approximately three to five years' experience in a communications, marketing, or public relations role (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated skill in writing, web editing, and social media management.
  • Proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects effectively and in an organized manner, within tight and/or conflicting deadlines.
  • High degree of professional proficiency and independence in communicating to diverse audiences with distinctive needs.

Assets

  • Experience in a postsecondary environment and/or health and wellness field.
  • Experience with diverse digital platforms (digital content management systems, social media platforms, graphic design).
