    Job Summary


    Amazon is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Data Governance Specialist – Master Data Management (MDM) to support the integrity, consistency, and reliability of enterprise data across the organization. In this role, you will be responsible for defining, implementing, and enforcing data governance frameworks that ensure master data is accurate, secure, compliant, and fit for business decision‑making. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams including data engineering, analytics, product, finance, compliance, and business stakeholders to establish best‑in‑class data standards that support Amazons scalable, data‑driven operations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design, implement, and maintain Master Data Management (MDM) policies, standards, and procedures across multiple domains (customer, product, vendor, finance, etc.).
    • Define data ownership, stewardship models, and governance workflows to ensure accountability and data quality.
    • Partner with business and technical teams to identify critical data elements and enforce data quality rules and validation processes.
    • Monitor data quality metrics, conduct root‑cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Support metadata management, data lineage, and data cataloging efforts to enhance data transparency and usability.
    • Ensure compliance with internal governance policies, regulatory requirements, and data privacy standards.
    • Collaborate with data engineering teams to integrate governance controls into data pipelines and MDM platforms.
    • Facilitate data governance councils, working groups, and training sessions to promote data literacy and best practices.
    • Document data definitions, business rules, and governance processes for enterprise‑wide adoption.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, master data management, and data quality principles.
    • Hands‑on experience with MDM tools, data catalogs, or data governance platforms.
    • Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud‑based data ecosystems.
    • Ability to translate business requirements into data standards and governance rules.
    • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and documentation skills.
    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non‑technical teams.
    • Knowledge of data privacy, security, and compliance concepts (e.g., GDPR, internal controls).

    Experience

    • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, Business Analytics, or a related field.
    • 3–7 years of experience in data governance, master data management, data quality, or related data roles.
    • Experience working in large‑scale, complex, and fast‑paced enterprise environments is highly preferred.
    • Exposure to cloud platforms and modern data architectures is an advantage.
