    Description
    Summary of responsibilities

    The successful candidate will provide quality occupational therapy services within a client-centered framework.

    The successful applicant will primarily work within the Geriatric Day Hospital interdisciplinary team to determine the physical, psychosocial, perceptual, cognitive and functional status of patients through administration of formal and informal assessments.

    They will implement interventions to enhance overall function and provide recommendations regarding level of support upon discharge from the program.

    The successful applicant will provide education to patients, their families, caregivers, students and interdisciplinary team members.

    They will participate in applicable Chronic Disease Management (CDM) meetings, assigned committees and ongoing development of the Geriatric Day Hospital program.

    The successful candidate will practice in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.


    Requirements of the job


    • B.Sc or M.Sc. in Occupational Therapy
    • Registered and a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
    • Minimum two-year experience in general medicine and surgical acute care and short-term rehabilitation setting
    • Basic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to general medicine and surgical acute care and short-term rehabilitation clients
    • Experience with psychosocial, cognitive, perceptual and physical health related assessment and intervention skills addressing occupational performance
    • Demonstrated ability to manage caseload volumes
    • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
    • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
    • Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
    • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
    • Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French – and testing completed)

    Asset:

    • Member of Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) or the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT)
    • Assistive Devices Program (ADP) authorizer
