Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Facilities, the maintenance person will assist in maintaining the County's buildings, grounds and physical plant.

This includes the safe operation of all facilities in accordance with established preventative maintenance and operation programs and procedures. Elgin Manor "the home where the heart is" is a 90 bed long-term care facility located in the Township of Southwold just minutes outside of St.

Thomas, ON.

What will you do?

  • Conducts daily checks for work order's and completes required tasks and/or repairs.
  • Tracks, logs and records status updates regarding work orders, inspections, daily activities and/or repairs in the County of Elgin's computerized maintenance work management system.
  • Monitors and maintains various mechanical systems, including HVAC, boilers and refrigeration equipment.
  • Maintains and monitors indoor and outdoor facility lighting to the required standard and complete logging of data into the work management system.
  • Cleans, repairs and maintains equipment as required.
  • Cleans, repairs and maintains residents' belongings as requested.
  • Inspects all fire and life safety equipment.
  • Assists with facility decorating, painting, wallpapering, etc.
  • Removes garbage and other waste items as required.
  • Maintains facility grounds, including the removal of ice and snow from steps and sidewalks, planting flowers, etc.
  • Monitors facilities Building Automation System (BAS) throughout the day.
  • Available to accept callins for emergency repairs.

Qualifications:


  • Secondary school diploma and/or equivalent (GED).
  • Possesses a valid class "G" drivers license and an acceptable drivers abstract.
  • Applied knowledge and skills to support a basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating and mechanical equipment.
- understanding and ability to utilize basic computer programs, i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, database management programs.

  • Must be willing to actively participate and improve skills and knowledge through training in maintenance procedures through inservice, etc.
  • Up to date applied knowledge regarding Health & Safety procedures/policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Conditions of Employment:


  • Successful completion of a police record check with vulnerable sector clearance.
  • Satisfactory TB documentation.
