International Student Services Coordinator, Laurentian International:

Full-Time Appointment


Responsibilities:


The International Student Services Coordinator will provide current and accurate advice on immigration issues related to studies and work placements, and develops programs, services and orientation programs to support the successful transition of international students to Laurentian University.


  • Provide oneonone personal advising or group information sessions for international students on immigrationrelated topics (eg. Study permits, reentry requirements, coop work permits and postgrad work permits as they relate to immigration laws in Canada), social/cultural learning and engagement;
  • Provide assistance and advocacy to students with special academic, social and cultural needs;
  • Develop and maintain essential immigration procedures and information documents and provide training to ensure the consistent delivery of international student advising across the campus;
  • Provide crisis intervention to students which includes liaising with internal and external partners where required to provide services and referrals;
  • Remain current on the needs of all international students at the university, relevant university policies and processes, best practices in immigration consulting and student transition and engagement;
  • Forecast the future developments and assist in the identification of projects to enhance the academic and personal success of all international students;
  • Develop, coordinate and delivering specialized cultural, religious, social and political events and services for international students
  • Planning, coordinating and deliver university and city orientation programs for new international students and provide leadership to the student advising team during orientations;
  • Administer the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) which includes informing students of the details of the policy, enrolling, updating and reporting on the student participation in the plan and reconciling plan discrepancies;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant internal and external partners such as government organizations, employers, business groups and agencies;
  • Participate in communitywide, departmentwide or campuswide responsibilities including special events, special projects and various committees as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study that may include international business or communication studies;
  • Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in an international student advising role, within the education sector, where duties included providing immigration advice on issues related to studies and work placements;
  • Must have and maintain in good standing, or willing and eligible to obtain the Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) OR Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) designation with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC);
  • Highly knowledgeable about Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Immigration and Refugee Protection Act/Regulations and policies and procedures pertaining to international students;
