The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager of Nursing Practice and Clinical Supports, the Policy Consultant's role encompasses leading teams at IWK Health through the policy process with expert knowledge of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

The Policy Consultant leads, engages, and supports the development and implementation of a robust policy culture, ensuring alignment with IWK Health's strategic direction and initiatives.

The role is accountable for ensuring the development of a system that is continuously updated and reflective of current best practice.


  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Providing support and guidance to specific programs, teams and/or health care providers on policy process in collaboration with policy team members
  • Maintaining an awareness of trends and issues within IWK Health and the health care system that pertains to professional practice and the care of the populations we serve
  • Ensuring policies support IWK Health's mission, vision, and values, and are not in conflict with existing professional and organizational bylaw's, rules and regulations, and policies
  • Utilization of change management strategies to lead projects and initiatives within the policy office portfolio
  • Building capacity in IWK Health for policy development practices by establishing and maintaining high standards of practice and demonstrating leadership.

Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday


Your Qualifications:


  • Baccalaureate degree in a health care field
  • Master's degree an asset
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with professional body required.
  • Knowledge and experience in policy drafting preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills with the ability to multitask to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of evidencebased approaches to inform policy development, organizational planning, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Previous experience engaging, leading and managing project work groups required; working respectfully and collaboratively to build consensus
  • Functions as a change agent by thinking reflectively, assessing alternatives and evidence, leading and supporting change.
  • Current successful completion of CPR-Level C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required
