Description

The Diller Teen Fellows program was established in San Francisco in 1997 by the Helen Diller Family Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund.

The first cohort of the program began its activity in San Francisco in January 1998.

Since then, the program has expanded to include 32 participating communities across the U.S., Canada, South Africa, Australia, South America, Europe and Israel.


The program targets teens in the 10th and 11th grades and spearheads the development of Jewish youth leadership founded on a unique model of Jewish pluralism, Jewish Peoplehood, and transatlantic partnership.

All this with the goal of creating a global network of teens who will fulfill an active and effective leadership role in creating a better world.


Duties

  • Coordinate, develop and lead scheduled workshops and retreats throughout the year in accordance with the Diller mission, vision, and goals (includes but is not limited to logistics, service learning projects, volunteer initiatives, Israel education and more)
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to 20 program participants, 2 Junior Counselors, 1 Program Intern, 1 Shinshin
  • Manage the interview and selection process for 20 participants for each upcoming program year, the Junior Counselors selection process and the Program Intern selection process
  • Promote the program locally in collaboration with other local organizations
  • Collaborate with the Y's marketing team during the year and recruitment time
  • Design, colead, and supervise, in partnership with the Israeli partner Coordinator, seminars in local community and in Israel (the Jewish Community Mifgash and the Israel Summer Seminar)
  • Manage the programs local budget
  • Active participation in national and international professional development (travel is involved at least 45 times a year.)

Education, Knowledge and Skills

  • BA in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Jewish Studies, or related field; MA preferred
  • Experience developing and leading programming addressing Jewish identity development, youth leadership development, community service, and Israel education
  • Experience in experiential education, group facilitation, program development and/or management
  • 1 year of work related experience (preferred)
  • Proven success developing personal connections with and mentoring Jewish teens
  • Understanding of and appreciation for Israeli culture, preferably including extended time in Israel and at least a beginningintermediate understanding of Israeli history, politics, and geography
  • Knowledge of the local Jewish community and prior experience working collaboratively with community professionals (preferred)
  • Strong facilitation, education, organization, and communication skills required
  • Administrative and management skills including budget management, scheduling, and communications management
  • Ability to collaborate in an international partnership
  • Comfortable taking initiative, resourceful, able to work well independently and collaboratively
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends, including travel to Israel for 3 weeks during the summer as well as additional travel during the year to a variety of conferences and trainings


  • Excellent computer skills

  • Microsoft Office programs, Zoom, Instagram
  • Ability to communicate in English, French and Hebrew an asset
  • Driver's License

Application Procedure

  • A one on one interview with a member of the local or international team
  • Depending on the number of applicants, an evaluation center interview (a group interview with the other applicants)
  • A final one on one meeting with someone from the Diller International staff team


Only eligible applicants will be contacted and must be available to attend the Diller Teen Fellows Evaluation Center interview process on Tuesday February 28th, 2023, from 6pm-7:30pm.
