    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Utilizing the nursing process to provide safe, competent care to assigned patients; using a systematic problem-solving approach to assess the condition and identify the needs of the patient; observing and enforcing aseptic technique and infection control principles required in the prevention of nosocomial and communicable diseases; developing a plan of care for patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and perform other related duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (within good standing and must provide annual registration);
    • Current BCLS;
    • Coronary Care I course (Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation) required OR must enrol within 3 months of commencing in position and successfully complete within 12 months of commencing in position (reimbursement for the cost of the course will be provided upon providing proof of completion);
    • Recent related clinical experience in general medicine and surgical care nursing;
    • Recent experience in an acute medical/surgical/cardiology unit preferred
    • Proven cardiac rhythm and patient assessment skills (tested)
    • Critical Care Certificate course or equivalent experience preferred
    • Demonstrated wound management and pain management skills;
    • Knowledgeable regarding the application of health and safety and infection control principles as it applies to the role of RN;
    • Sound knowledge and application of nursing skills as listed in the C.N.O. "Standards of Nursing Practice";
    • Proven organizational, critical thinking, problem-solving and teaching skills;
    • Able to assume a charge/resource role;
    • Sound judgment, good observation and patient assessment skills; flexibility/adaptability to work assignments, tact and empathy;
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Able to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
    • Physically capable to lift, turn, transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids;
    • Previous Cardiac Monitoring course and/or Critical Care Certificate course or equivalent experience preferred;
    • Must have a satisfactory performance record;

    • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular inservice education in this area;
    • Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).

    Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
