Summary of Duties:
Under the general direction of the Director of Ts'zil, the Lil'wat Language & Culture Manager plans, directs and supervises the work of the Lil'wat7ul Culture Centre staff, and coordinates, plans and implements the language and culture programs, for Lil'wat Nation, following Lil'wat Nation Strategic Plan.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
- Manages the business, operating, administration and program affairs of the Lil'wat7ul Culture Centre (LCC) in accordance with the approved Vision, Mission, Value Statements and Strategic Plan.
- Provides leadership to the Lílwat Nation staff & community in the planning, development and management of the language and culture affairs, including programs at the Lil'wat7ul Culture Centre.
- Supports and promotes the work of the Lil'wat7ul Cultural Heritage Language Authority (LCHLA)
- Creates the LCLHA Agenda according to reports and requests; provides support to the Chair of LCLHA
- Manages the overall development and submission / presentation of all formal Reports to include, but not limited to, Language and Culture, Financial, Human Resource and Administration.
- Manages and implements the current Lil'wat7ul Culture Centre Strategic Plan
- Supervises, coaches, and evaluates the performance of all employees with a direct reporting relationship to the LLC Manager, including the development and administration of individual employee training and development plans.
- Manages / administers
- Develop and schedule language and culture workshops to include, but not be limited to: Cedar weaving, Nt'akmen, Language Nest, First Voices, etc.
- Assists the Director of Ts'zil in the design and delivery of programs to assist First Nation people in finding language and culture programs.
- Maintains a positive rapport and commitment to Lil'wat Nation elders and working alongside and take guidance from the elders.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Experience and Attributes:
- An Undergraduate degree such as
- Valid BC Class 5 driver's license, a clean driver's abstract and access to a personal vehicle. Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, vulnerable sector.
- 57 years of related experience in a Cultural Center, Museum, etc.
- Knowledge of the Culture, Customs, and Traditions of First Nation Peoples is mandatory; knowledge of Lil'wat Nation culture and traditions is an asset.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.
- Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and time management skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines prioritizes assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Motivated selfstarter and with strong interpersonal skills.
- Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.
