Job description

What will you do?

  • Lead, coach and develop a highperformance team of instructional designers responsible for the creation of learning and development experiences.
  • Establish the team's vision, goals and initiatives aligned to Sun Life business goals and overall learning and development team mandate.
  • Manage operational workflow to ensure deliverables are tracked, reported on, integrated with anchor projects, and resources are effectively allocated.
  • Build strong relationships with internal partners, external vendors, industry experts, Advisors and Managers to gather input, ensure alignment and drive new and innovative thinking.
  • Arrange and manage access to tools and technologies that allow designers to create and deliver a modern learning experience utilizing online, digital, and virtual platforms and learning techniques.
  • Set the standards for the departmental content library facility, ensuring version control standards are met and align with compliance regulations.
  • Influence the selection of and ongoing updates to the learning ecosystem ensuring it meets the team and users' needs and act as relationship manager with the vendor.
  • Monitor course design process and provide expertise in learning design and studentcentred instructional design to teams working on courses, programs, learning activities, workshops, presentations, consultations etc.
  • Provide overflow to your team by creating materials such as online courses, software simulations, job aids, facilitator or learner guides, audio scripts, audio, video, interactive PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, and more.
  • Guide IDs in the analysis of learners and learning context for courses and learning and development activities.
  • Gather feedback from multiple sources to evaluate effectiveness of the ID team
  • Respond to expressed needs within the RAS community related to our course content library.
  • Model excellent presentation, technology and pedagogical skills and knowledge
  • Participate in discussions related to the alignment of course level outcomes with program outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to rollup sleeves and support broader team as required.
  • Guide IDs in effectively managing to project timelines.
  • Assist with training, support and guidance to instructional designers and support teams as required.

What do you need?

  • Experience supervising the design and development of materials such as online courses, software simulations, job aids, facilitator or learner guides, audio scripts, audio, video, interactive PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, and more.
  • You bring a sense of urgency and instill the same a sense of urgency in others to driving outcomes.
  • Ability to deal with significant ambiguity and constantly changing priorities in a challenging environment.
  • Ability to proactively network, and foster relationships, and build partnerships.
  • Strong critical thinking & creative problemsolving skills
  • Skilled at driving outcomes and feel comfortable holding others accountable for their part.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and determine what action best aligns to team goals.
  • Organizational awareness, agility, resourcefulness and demonstrated relationship building skills.
  • Superior communication skills professional, confident, transparent, and concise communicator (verbal and written)
  • Prior understanding of the retail advice industry in Canada, and familiarity with Sun Life's distribution channels
