Position Description:


A part-time research associate position is available in the research laboratory of Dr. Rosanna Weksberg at the Research Institute of The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.


Research in the Weksberg lab focuses on studying various paediatric neurodevelopmental disorders from an epigenetic perspective, with access to large repositories of biological samples and associated research data.

The lab uses diverse approaches to investigate these research questions, including the genomic and epigenomic profiling of patient samples from blood samples, iPSC and mouse models.

Drug treatment assays are carried out in cell cultures of primary and manipulated cell lines and in mouse models to test potential therapeutic agents.


Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Demonstrate scientific creativity and/or knowledge in a particular field
  • Plan, organize and carry out laboratory research
  • Remain current on research of current principles and theories
  • Independently determine new data required to develop a paper
  • Arrange publication of articles in international journals and publications
  • Design layout and prepare peer reviewed scientific manuscripts and grant proposals
  • Contribute to the development of new principles and concepts
  • Provide leadership and supervision within the research group on scientific matters
  • Supervise and mentor trainees and technologists
  • Provide a continuity of research
  • Assist the PI in ensuring fiscal safety and legislative responsibilities are maintained
  • Assume responsibility for interpreting assignments, planning a series of experiments, correlating data, evaluating results, and preparing reports embodying pertinent hypotheses, assumptions, procedures and findings
  • Independently design and/or create new techniques, procedures and practices
  • Participate in ad hoc committees within the Research Institute
  • Perform indepth analyses of a range of extremely complex problems requiring evaluation of multiple intangible variables and alternative solutions
  • Exercise extensive independent judgement, initiative and decision making to resolve problems
  • Revise existing and/or develop new methods and evaluation criteria for problem analysis and resolution
  • Develop guidelines, procedures and standards; monitor for industry compliance
  • Serve as the spokesperson and authority for internal and external contacts on a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts
  • Develop and present material for publication using strong written, verbal, and graphical communications skills with the ability to express highly complex scientific concepts effectively
  • Present scientific outcomes to the department, members of the research community and international conferences
  • Lead and develop private sector collaborations
