    Position Overview

    Working from the MHSC Office, the position provides leadership in areas pertaining to families including prenatal, postpartum and newborn care, and postpartum mental health. The Healthy Parenting and Early Child Development Coordinator will work alongside the Families First Coordinator and interface with other sectors including but not limited to Women and Child Health, Primary Care, Midwifery, and Baby Friendly Manitoba.

    MAIN FUNCTION:

    The goal of this position is to provide coordination support and clinical consultation to MHSC and to the regional public health staff through the following activities:

  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of new developments, research, and best practice programs to ensure program delivery remains consistent with current evidence.
  • Identifying the human, fiscal and programmatic elements required to provide a quality service.
  • Developing program model processes and procedures to support program delivery.
  • Developing and recommending guidelines, policies, and resources to guide program delivery.
  • Working with Regional Health Authorities (RHAs) and MHSC to adapt program delivery to meet regional needs and circumstances.
  • Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years recent family health, community health / public health nursing experience with emphasis on health protection / illness prevention, health promotion and community development required.
  • Experience working with multi-sectoral partnerships within and beyond the health services sector.
  • Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's degree in a related area preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba registration
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Qualifications and Skills

  • Significant knowledge of theory and practice within the area of early childhood development, healthy parenting, and maternal child health services.
  • Understanding of the application of population health, health promotion, community development and harm reduction approaches, particularly in a cross-departmental and cross-sectoral context.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in community program development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation, using an integrated approach.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and evaluate professional training and development for regional staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team building, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, and computer skills, including competency in creating and delivering public presentations.
  • Ability to critically analyze information and apply relevant knowledge to practice.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with other levels of government, jurisdictions, and organizations on a provincial and national level.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in all aspects of Public Health Nursing services.
  • Current working knowledge of prenatal and postnatal screening and assessment tools including Families First.
  • Familiarity with epidemiology and biostatistics an asset.
