Job Summary


The main role of the Procedures Design Specialist is the development of instrument procedures consisting of; the original design and verification of NAV CANADA produced instrument procedures and the conversion of externally produced instrument procedures into an accepted digital format.

The Specialist will follow standards and recommended practices of CARS Part VIII relating to the instrument procedure design standards outlined in TP 308, and associated documentation from the NAV CANADA Aeronautical Information Management group.


Job Description:


Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce original designs of an instrument procedure or airway in accordance with the approved established procedures and criteria from CARs Part VIII and NAV CANADA operating procedures.
  • Verify original designs of an instrument procedure or airway produced by NAV CANADA in accordance with the approved established procedures and criteria.
  • Convert designs of an instrument procedure or airway, by a peer, supplier or external design organization, into an accepted digital format in accordance with the approved established procedures and criteria.
  • Confer with a variety of clients such as the AIM Standards group, other AIM groups as required and with Airports and other accountable sources.
  • Adhere to company policy and procedures as it pertains to design development and maintenance
  • Provide recommendations with respect to the development of instrument procedures in relation to aviation safety

Education:


  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalency and;
  • Possession of a valid Canadian Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or CPL (H) and Instrument Rating (IR)
  • Group 1, 2, 3 or 4 or;
  • Possessing or having possessed a Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) and Instrument Rating (IR)
  • Group 1 or 4 or military equivalent.
  • Must have been pilot in command, second in command and have completed an IFR Flight Test within the past 24 months.

Experience:


  • Experience in Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flight planning and execution.
  • Experience in using Canadian Air Navigation Services.
  • Experience filling in administrative paperwork with high accuracy and in a timely manner.
  • Experience in participating in projects.
  • Experience analyzing complex situations, identifying and resolving problems in a technically complex environment.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations Part VIII and associated standards as it pertains to the criteria and procedures used in developing instrument approach procedures.
  • Knowledge of ICAO Standards and Practices, in particular Annex 4 and 15,11, 14 and 6, including the operational requirement for information concerning airspace facilities, services, procedures, and hazards.
  • Knowledge of terminal and enroute communications, navigational aids and surveillance systems and designated airspace.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian NOTAM system and meteorological and telecommunication services.
  • Knowledge of aircraft operating envelopes, procedures, and IFR flight procedures, both fixed wing and rotary wing.

  • Ability to effectively complete work tasks within set deadlines including filling in administrative paperwork with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively participate in projects.
  • Ability to analyze situations and make decisions in a changing and technically complex environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in and create a productive cooperative work environment.
