The Community Arts Coordinator will supervise and support the work of the Community Recreation and Leisure Counsellors, scheduling of Special Programs Instructors, and the delivering of Expressive Arts Community Programs that are inclusive, mindful, and wellness-based to the community.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement engaging and inclusive community programs and events emphasizing mindful Expressive Arts Programming
  • Collaborate with Special Programs Instructor for Person with Disabilities in organizing summer activities, and contribute to crafting the curriculum, ensuring alignment with organizational and safety standards for participants, their families/support team, and our facilitation staff.

  • Oversee any writing created by Special Programs Instructors and Counsellors to ensure adherence to AODA standard.
  • Organize and assist with setup and cleanup of activities and events. Coach and mentor facilitators and support team.
  • Lead preand postcamp meetings to work with the facilitation team on any situations of concern with regards to the wellbeing of any participants. This includes escalating situations to the Recreation Programs Manager and ED if necessary in order to resolve the concern. Maintain positive, constructive relationships with staff to meet campers needs and provide effective conflict resolution should any situations arise.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Leadership role in facilitating 8 weeks (July and August 2024) of inclusive Expressive Arts Summer Programming to the community.
  • Manage and supervise team with responsibilities including program planning, material acquisition, delegation of material preparation, arranging material pickup, and assisting with program delivery and administration.
  • Liaise with the Marketing team to market any and all events/programs under this team.
  • Monitor of participant experience and adaptive support by communicating with the participant and/or caregivers/guardians. Take charge of emergency situations or additional requirements, which may include medical emergencies, contacting guardians/caregivers, or offering oneonone support to participants in need.
  • Ensure activities are safe, inclusive and executed at a high level.
  • Supervision of team, creation of team's schedules in coordination with other teams.
  • Supervise, organize and encourage staff in preparation of curriculum and materials.
  • Debrief after programs to address any situations or areas of concern and ways to improve next opportunities for community.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Participate in programming activities. Keep detailed attendance records. Prioritize participants' wellbeing, safety and protection throughout the summer.


AWAH is an arts-based Canadian Charity that frequently engages with vulnerable communities, including seniors, individuals with special needs, those focused on mental health and wellness, and residents of at-risk and low-income areas.

We collaborate with local community organizations that support these groups, aiming to develop a deeper understanding of working within the social services sector and enhancing our communication to create a "safe space" for these communities.

Access to Registered Psychotherapists, Expressive Arts Therapists, and other team members with backgrounds in social services will facilitate the adoption and learning of the language used by these groups throughout this employment period.

  • Proven creative problemsolving skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently and meet deadlines as well as being very flexible.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized, effective leadership.
  • Excellent Customer Service delivery.
  • Expressive Arts and general arts experience, camp experience or program facilitation is an asset.
  • Skills in group dynamics, and online group facilitation are an asset.
  • Skills working with individuals with disabilities, mentalwellness based programs, or inclusion work an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1year(s) experience in leadership and program coordination
  • Minimum 1year(s) experience in leading expressive arts programming or related experience.
  • Post-Secondary education in Social Science, Education, Art or related programs.
  • Experience with Expressive art therapy programs.
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment, responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and nonvisible dimensions of diversity.
  • Experience working as part of a team environment, and leadership/management of teams.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C by Jul
