Job Summary:


Communication Officer L06
The Communications Officer is responsible for providing support and communications products


Main functions include:

  • Develop and edit internal/external communication products to support corporate and branch plans.
  • Prepare communications products to support communications plans implementation, under the supervision of the senior advisors and supervisor.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of internal/external communication strategies, processes and programs.

Communication Advisor L07
The Communication Advisor is responsible for providing communications support to clients, senior managers and internal stakeholders and for developing communications products for diverse target audiences


Main functions include:

  • Develop and edit communications plans and products to support corporate and branch plans and report on their effectiveness.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging communications issues and activities and provide advice to managers and supervisor on communications strategies, processes and programs.
  • Analyze communications plans and support senior communications advisors in their implementation.
  • Assist in the coordination of outreach activities with partners and within the organization and participate in governmentwide projects.

Senior Communication Advisor L08
The Senior Communications Advisor is responsible for providing strategic communications advice to clients, senior managers and executives and internal stakeholders for complex and strategic initiatives and for developing communications products for diverse target audiences


Main functions include:

  • Advise senior executives on communications and engagement issues touching a directorate, the whole organization or external engagement, and provide strategic recommendations that align with CSIS's mandate.
  • Liaise with internal and/or external stakeholders to identify, recommend, lead and create communications and engagement products that promote organizational programs, strategic priorities, or operational and corporate products.
  • Monitor the environment, including liaising with other federal organizations, to anticipate and advise on communications and engagement issues as they arise.
  • Develop, review and edit strategic communications products for internal communications (e.g. communications strategies, materials for the intranet, articles and announcements, video script, speaking notes, podcasts, brochures and pamphlets, and employee surveys).
  • Liaise with stakeholders in areas such as advertising, marketing, web development, graphic design, multimedia and digital services.

For Issues Management positions only:

  • Develop communication plans/strategies for promoting priorities, navigating issues management and achieving external communications objectives.
  • From an external communications perspective, plan, draft and edit social media content to promote the organization, mandate and strategic priorities, as well as draft, review, edit and respond to media inquiries.
  • Develop, review and edit strategic communications products for external (e.g. Annual Report, media releases, public opinion research and academic outreach publications).

Education:


The minimum standard for these positions is:

Communication Officer L06

  • Undergraduate degree in a field related to communications* and one (1) year of relevant communication experience
    , orA college diploma in a field related to communications and two (2) years of relevant communication experience

Communication Advisor L07

  • Undergraduate degree in a field related to communications* and two (2) years of relevant communication experience
    , orA college diploma in a field related to communications and four (4) years of relevant communication experience

Senior Communication Advisor L08

  • Undergraduate degree in a field related to communications* and four (4) years of relevant communication experience
    , orA college diploma in a field related to communications and six (6) years of relevant communication experience
  • Related fields include but are not limited to: communications, media studies, multimedia, public relations, journalism, marketing, editing and writing.
The educational program must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada.

If you completed a program outside of Canada you will be required to obtain proof of a Canadian equivalency at your expense through a recognized credential assessment service.
