Full Time, 75 Hour Bi-Weekly

8:00am-4:00pm Four Days a Week

12:00pm-8:00pm One Day a week

Every other weekend, min four hours.

Position Summary of Activity Director
The Activity Director is responsible for planning and directing recreational, rehabilitative and restorative activities for all residents. Planning and securing equipment, materials and supplies for the resident's program.

Is directly responsible to work with all staff and departments in a multidisciplinary approach to meeting the needs of the residents.


Qualifications

  • Recreational diploma/degree from a recognized community college or university courses in Gerontology.
  • 2 years of experience in long term care with knowledge of programs and techniques in recreation.
  • Knowledge of Community Resources
  • Knowledge of program development
  • Understanding the skills in geriatric care and gerontology.

Activity Responsibilities:


  • Developing goals and objectives for department and resident's.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures according to Fixing Long Term Act and updating the manual on a yearly basis or when new information becomes available.
  • Planning, developing, and monitoring recreation and leisure service delivery.
  • Managing human resources (human, fiscal, and equipment and supplies)
  • Research and implement new activities geared towards our home and population.
  • Ensuring the orientation of new recreation staff.
  • Supporting/promoting staff development and ongoing education of recreation staff.
  • Cocoordinating recreation services with other internal and external services and/or community agencies.
  • Communication with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participating in weekly care conferences for the resident's making sure to make a note in the file and nursing file regarding what was said.
  • Budgeting monthly activity department funds and purchase of any necessary supplies including tuck shop supplies.
  • Plan monthly outings with the resident's organizing transportation and money.
  • Facilitating and implementing quality management and risk management activities for the department.
  • Run's the resident' council, doing all the follow up's and making sure to do the mins.
  • Is responsible for the mins of the following committees:
  • Resident's Council
  • Activity Meetings
  • Fall Prevention Meetings
  • Ensuring accurate documentation of recreation and leisure services to resident's: Resident Admission Assessments, Resident Care Plans, Resident Activity Attendance Sheets, Activity Audits, MDS/RAI coding and RAPS, and documentation as necessary in resident's charts.
  • Organizing and/or coordinating recreation inservices when required.
  • Responsible for development and upgrading his/her knowledge and skills in activity programming and philosophies geared to meeting total needs of resident's.
  • Maintain updated photo ID of all resident's.
  • Prepare, type, and photocopy monthly calendars and newsletters for monthly distribution.
  • Help the Facility plan and organize the Accreditation process.
  • Will be doing a shopping once a month for resident's and anything that may be needed for the department.
  • Maintain organized cleanness in the department, updating any binders and paperwork as necessary.
  • Maintain the storage of all activity equipment in the back making sure to keep in touch with current fire regulations.
  • Plan a Family BBQ and Christmas party for the whole facility.

Pastoral Responsibilities:


  • Providing and/or coordinating grief and bereavement support to residents and families.
  • Providing input to deal with ethical issues for resident's staff and families.
  • Providing crisis intervention in experiences such as grief, illness and death.
  • Coordinating and directing faith group programs for support to residents.
  • Bring in more church services to have a wide variety for the resident's.
  • Maintain records of pastoral services for residents.
  • Ensuring and facilitating the Pastoral Care Committee and the meetings.
  • Maintain the binder and manual for the Pastoral Care.
  • Organizing the yearly Memorial Service as required by the Pastoral Care Committee.
  • Facilitating contact with the resident's former community/faith groups.

Volunteer Responsibilities:


  • Conducting a needs analysis for volunteer's which identifies areas where volunteer's can be used to enhance or provide programs.
  • Planning and organizing a volunteer program to respond to the resident's identified strength's, needs, and desires.
  • Recruiting and selecting volunteers, determining their suitability in relation to the facilities needs.
  • Orientation of volunteer's that will include a tour of the facility, philosophy of the facility and volunteer program.
  • Coordinating and maintaining educational and training programs
