Reports to the Team Leader, Diet Office, Nutrition and Food Services and works closely with the department Food ServiceTeam Leaders, Diet Office team and supports the Clinical Dietitians in providing nutritional care to admitted patients.

Key Qualifications:


  • Community College Diploma in food and nutrition or University Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics
  • CSNM membership mandatory
  • 2 years' experience as a Diet Technician involved in patient screening, patient visitation and menu modifications in an acutecare hospital
  • Excellent knowledge of standard therapeutic diets and clinical nutrition, demonstrated by accurate menu editing
  • Excellent knowledge of the Computrition Hospitality Suite software and Meditech (e.g. O/E admissions module)
  • Proven communication skills with patients and family members, medical, nursing and allied health staff, service staff, management and external contacts
  • Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated by a high level of motivation, resourcefulness, and a positive approach in dealings with all staff and patients
  • Proven written communication skills as demonstrated through written reports and charting
  • Demonstrated mathematical skills
  • Proven time management, organizational and planning skills

Position Summary/Responsibilities:

- modifying patients' menus based on therapeutic diet orders and THP diet definitions
- conducting meal rounds
- visiting patients and families for food preferences as required
- following up on patients' tolerance and intake of food and supplements
- documenting in patients' charts after each visit
- updating patient profile in Hospitality Sute
- calculating energy intake ( i.e. calorie counts)
- participation in food services taste panels
- follows up on patient concerns or complaints liaising with NFS Team Leaders
- attends relevant meetings
- works alternate weekends
