Expediting Officer, Montreal based

This role is a great opportunity for a dynamic Expediting Officer with good attention to detail,
sound data management capabilities,
SAP systems knowledge and experience in establishing collaborative working relationships with both
internal and external stakeholders.



Expediting is an integral component of the Purchase to Pay (P2P) process and drives compliance for the on-time delivery of goods to our operating sites. The role will make a strong contribution in achieving and sustaining targets for the DIFOT (Delivery in full on time) key performance indicator. You will provide dedicated support to business units, acquiring the right information about deliveries and updating purchase orders in the Rio Tinto Business Solution when required.

The ability to work effectively with a number of internal (Buy team, Maintenance Planners) and external stakeholders (Suppliers, Transport Providers) will be integral to the success of this role.

Also of importance will be the ability to manage a number of tasks simultaneously and plan for the best outcomes.

The Expediting Officer will work directly with stakeholders to ensure the seamless delivery of goods within due dates.

In particular, this will involve contacting suppliers to confirm and update delivery dates for parts required by the operating site and communicating that information back to the requisitioner.

In addition, updating the Rio Tinto Business Solution may be required to reflect the current status of deliveries.


Reporting to the Project Manager - OA Project, you will:


  • Initiate direct liaison with suppliers and transport providers to ensure delivery of goods as stipulated on purchase orders
  • Close collaboration with requisitioners to identify changes in work plans that result in the need for high priority deliveries e.g., air freight requests
  • Ongoing assessment of supplier delivery performance and the provision of feedback to the respective Buy teams
  • Continuous monitoring of the procurement process to highlight data quality issues and to make suggestions for improvement for known problem areas
  • Have the ability to gather, interpret and process a large volume of data in an efficient and effective manner

The successful applicant will have:


  • Clerical skills such as
    typing, recordkeeping, and efficient filing

Strong Microsoft Excel skills; pivot tables, V-look up, formulas etc:

SAP navigation and reporting skills will definitely be an advantage

  • The ability to work under pressure and to meet aggressive deadlines

Ability to communicate (written & verbal) in a professional, succinct and clear fashion with all stakeholders:


  • Strong collaboration skills
  • An ability to work unsupervised and be a selfstarter i.e., proactive, highly organised & dependable

- Sound proficiency in both English and French languages

  • Ability to communicate in a professional, succinct and clear fashion with all stakeholders(verbally and written)
  • A proven track record of being a real and genuine team player and supporting colleagues
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Work experience in expediting and other procurement functions in mining or related industries
  • Commercial experience familiar with suppliers in the industry and the RTP sourcing process
