UCN acknowledges that we are on the traditional territories and homelands of many Indigenous peoples, in particular the Cree, Dene, Red River Métis, and Oji-Cree. Indigenous peoples have continuously maintained homelands in northern Manitoba since time immemorial. DUTIES
Reporting to the Dean, and working with other university faculty in Kenanow, the successful candidate will research, develop and deliver courses in the Bachelor of Education program, on-campuses, and off-site and if necessary, by distance technology.The successful candidate will also be responsible for mentoring students; liaising with Indigenous and northern communities and organizations; and fully participating in other program functions. The successful candidate may be required to advise and mentor practicum field placements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· A Doctorate or Masters in Education with evidence of study in Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Pedagogy and/or land-based Education, consideration may be given to applicants with Bachelor of Education and relevant experience who will commit to enrolling in a Master's of Education program
· A minimum of five years teaching experience in First Nations or provincial public school (K-12)
· Experience in curriculum development at the middle year level and/or land or place-based learning
· Experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures
· Understanding of cultural and language influences specific to adult learners in northern communities
· Effective interpersonal skills
· Excellent organizational skills
· Excellent critical thinking and leadership skills
· Commitment to life-long learning
ASSETS
· Knowledge of the Kenanow program model
· The ability to speak an Indigenous language
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
· Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
· Manitoba Teaching Certificate or equivalent from another comparable jurisdiction
