Overview of the Position


The Project Leader (Manager) position oversees the planning, implementation, and tracking of specific short-term projects which has a beginning, an end and specified deliverables.

Applies professional principles,
practices, and techniques to lead project teams and control project schedule, cost, and performance risks
to ensure satisfied customers. This role has ultimate responsibility for assigned projects and manages
customer satisfaction, definition, planning, monitoring, and others aspects of a project.


This position is an on-site role, based in our beautiful Home Office, which is located at 475 Panet Road, in Winnipeg.


Key Accountabilities include:


  • Plans and defines the scope of the project in collaboration with senior management
  • Creates a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully
complete the project

  • Determines the resources required to complete the project
  • Develops a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the
activities

  • Reviews the project schedule with senior management and all others that will be affected by the
project activities; revises the schedule as required

  • Determines the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its
completion

  • In consultation with the appropriate leaders, recruits, interviews and selects project Team
Members and/or volunteers with appropriate skills for the project activities

  • Leads project team and/or volunteers according to the established policies and practices of the
organization

  • Executes the project according to the project plan
  • Develops forms and records to document project activities
  • Sets up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured
  • Monitors the progress of the project and makes adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful
completion of the project

  • Establishes a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the
organization on the progress of the project

  • Reviews the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that
it meets the project standards

  • Writes reports on the project for management and for funders
  • Monitors and approves all budgeted project expenditures
  • Monitors cash flow projections and reports actual cash flow and variances to senior management
on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly).

  • Administers all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensures that all financial records for the project are up to date
  • Administers risk and leads change management
  • Evaluates and ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required
level of quality

  • Evaluates the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Post-secondary education an asset
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Prince2 Certification an asset
years project leadership experience

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of the 9 project leadership areas and core functions
  • Strong leadership capabilities
  • Highly dependable shows initiative and exercise good judgment
  • Ability to delegate tasks to others and ensure quality of work
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation skills
  • Highly adaptable with the ability to effectively communicate change to others

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
