Construction Manager to join our team in Burlington, ON.


Position Summary:


The Construction Manager (CM) is responsible for leading, directing and coordinating field personnel (in-house and subcontracted labor force) to ensure site operations are efficient, cost effective, performed safely and in a quality driven manner.

This is a role within the business to be performed with the highest level of integrity to enhance TAGG/KMI's reputation and role within the industry.

This position will also provide a liaison between internal (shop/office) and external (site) operations with General Contractors. This is a critical position and requires much efficiency, communication and cooperation between field and shop/office. This role is also key to our company's success in the areas of Reputation, Quality Control and Safety.


Responsibilities:


  • Review with PM the site schedules and plans to determine the individual and collective site material and labor requirements.
  • Develop site logistics plan and obtain and document client acceptance/buy in before site mobilization.
  • Create or oversee the development of a regular (weekly or biweekly) field schedule by the site foreman to ensure site labour, material needs, and information requirements are met.
  • Manage and monitor field progress daily to maintain contractual schedule requirements in line with the
- overall company project schedule, and/or document, communicate impacts to the schedule with the TK PM timely.

  • Ensure labour tracking and payroll information is collected on a job by job basis.
  • Attend, or ensure attendance by a TAGG/KMI site supervisor, any trade, subcontract & safety meetings on site as required.
  • Ensure weekly safety meetings are held on site with installation crews and ensure filing of proper administrative records with TAGG/KMI and Safety Representatives.
  • Interpret and understand drawings, specifications and project scopes to understand the cost/timing elements that affect the delivery and successful completion of each project with respect to material, labour and information required on site to ensure proper installation. This pertains specifically to resources required in the field including human resources, subcontractors, supplies, rental equipment, staging, tools etc.
  • Ensure TAGG/KMI installation personnel, or installation subcontractors are proceeding with scope of work and details as per most recent approved drawings and schedules/scopes. Any deviations from approved installation details are to have prior written approval by the TAGG/KMI Project Manager (or Engineering) to enable implementation/inclusion in preparing "as built" drawings.
  • Ensure fluid and open communication is received from all site supervisors and site staff to enhance our understanding of TAGG/KMI field practices, and customer working environments. Host regular site supervisor group meetings to ensure communication is received and that any TAGG/KMI messages or updates are conveyed effectively to the field staff.
  • Assist in developing project labour cost estimates and field resource requirements to develop competitive estimates for future projects.
  • Make decisions with PM's and Director of External Operations on use of third party labour/subcontractors for glazing and metal panel installation as required.
  • Liaise with TAGG/KMI's fabrication shop or subcontractors and the various site foremen to ensure properly coordinated delivery of material, equipment etc. as well as the information/supplies required on site to install.
  • Verify the qualifications and training of operators of mobile & hoisting equipment on sites.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor quality control and safety policies & procedures on site. This includes the establishment, maintenance and adherence to TAGG/KMI Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Assist with project health, safety, and site environment orientation for existing and new project personnel
  • Assist with the development of safe work practices & hazard analysis that corresponds with GC programs
  • Ensure that all site staff adhere to, promote and understand TAGG/KMI's, the GC's and the Ministry of Labour's health and safety procedures/policies.
  • Provide proper tools and equipment on site and develop procedures to ensure they are stored and maintained properly and not abused or stolen.
  • Ensure proper measurements are taken on site to ensure proper dimensions and site conditions are provided to TAGG/KMI's PM's and Design/Engineering department.
  • Plan and manage inventory of site supplies both at TAGG/KMI for inventory stored at shop and on site.
