    Location - HYBRID Toronto OR Waterloo. This is 12 Month Contract Opportunity.

    The Group Retirement Services Finance team is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to enable effective management decision-making, working in partnership with our business partners in GRS and the Client Solution Center (CSC), as well as other Business Units in Canada, including Canadian Finance.

    The Expense Analyst will help support all the expense management functions for GRS and the CSC. This includes completion of the monthly/quarterly expense reporting deliverables, playing a key role in the expense planning/forecast process, coordinating the yearly budget, and providing ad-hoc expense related analysis.

    This role provides high exposure to all functional units in GRS and the CSC. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, both verbal and written. They must have strong relationship building, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, the candidate is expected to be flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment, challenging the status quo while respecting others, and maintaining a positive work environment.

    What will you do?

  • Support month-end reporting, forecasting and budgeting processes for expense management
  • Investigate and effectively communicate expense variances against budget to business leaders, working closely with Business stakeholders to forecast for upcoming spend
  • Provide accounting leadership on project spend, including calculating capitalization and amortization for various qualifying initiatives in GRS and the CSC and maintaining supporting schedules
  • Execute month-end close processes including accruals, expense transfers, CSC chargeback reporting and review of preliminary results for errors or unusual patterns in results
  • Assist in expense study, cost to service models and industry benchmark surveys
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of accounts
  • Analyze expense trends and recommend opportunities for savings
  • Collaborate with other Finance areas to support and promote process integration and efficiencies
  • Prepare or assist in ad hoc analysis and projects as required by management
  • What do you need to succeed?

  • University degree or college diploma with concentration in Business/Commerce, Accounting, or Finance
  • Minimum 2 – 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong financial analysis and model development skills
  • Proven ability to partner and build relationships
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Proven flexibility/adaptability/creativity to meet deadlines and manage priorities
  • Excellent PC skills (Role utilizes tools such as: MSOffice Suite, SAP, Tableau and Hyperion)
  • Highly motivated with the ability to consistently seek out improvements to current processes
