About the opportunity
TLC Solutions is seeking a talented Controller to join our team.

This role at TLC Solutions will be taking on the accounting functions from an external vendor to an internal department.

Our Controller will work closely with Director of Finance to build enterprise-class accounting workflows and SOPs playing a critical role in the company's growth.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Controller will own all accounting-related activities including, but not limited to:

  • Cost control and AP oversight
  • Reviewing payable invoices, and entries, entering missing details, correcting GL codes and tracking categories. Ensuring vendors and invoices are paid on time. Following up on missing receipts or incorrect charges. AP entries when needed and auditing direct costs and margins for accuracy.


  • Bank reconciliation

  • Daily & weekly bank reconciliation, importing bank statements when necessary, matching payments with invoices/bills, and investigating unmatched line items.


  • Payroll

  • Tracking ongoing payroll changes in BambooHR (HR management software) and Knit (payroll software), accurate and ontime fullcycle payroll processing for employees. Reviewing and correcting expense reimbursements to process through payroll. Entering and reconciling payroll journal entries in Xero. Assisting with benefits administration and remitting RRSP contributions.


  • Monthend

  • Working with the accounting team to process monthend close including bank account reconciliation, recoding entries, journal entries, accruals, calculating depreciation, monthly and quarterly remittances, and reporting. Working with the Director of Finance to build and maintain department and companylevel budgets and related reporting.


  • Documentation

  • Ensuring all accounting procedures, controls, and systems are documented and maintained.
  • Participation in departmentlevel meetings and events. Participation in companylevel events, initiatives, meetings, and other programs as requested. Assisting with general office operations as needed.
  • Provide backup coverage and support for the Director of Finance as needed

Qualifications and experience

  • Legally allowed to work in Canada. This role is either onsite or hybrid able to work from the Langley office three days per week.
  • Exceptional, professional, written and verbal, inperson and virtual, communication skills
  • Five years or more of progressive accounting experience, with 5 years in a senior role
  • Accountingrelated education: degree, and/or designation preferred
  • High level of ownership, attention to detail, and excellent problemsolving abilities
  • Excellent work ethic, energetic selfstarter, with a positive collaborative and proactive approach
  • Proficient in MS Office and experience with Xero or other cloudbased accounting software
  • Curious mindset, always wanting to understand and learn more
  • Bonus points for:
  • Experience in the IT industry


  • Payroll
certification(s)

  • Experience with US GAAP and crossborder intercompany transactions
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Background Check
