We're recruiting for a
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to direct the organization. The CEO is responsible for the strategic and visionary planning and execution of the organizational mission.

Reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors (BOD), the CEO provides essential leadership in advancing the organization's strategic direction, workplace culture, and stakeholder relationships.

This role requires a dynamic and results-oriented individual with a passion for animal welfare and a proven track record in strategic planning, financial management, organizational leadership, and the skills to drive positive change.

A creative thinker who has an ability to think innovatively and help propel the organization forward in its state of rapid growth.

Building and developing a culture of transparency, results-focus, and engagement is of critical importance.

Strategic Planning and Execution:
The CEO will develop and implement a robust strategic plan that aligns with the organization's mission and vision.

Ability to translate the strategic plan and operationalize it into relevant, metric driven Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support objectives.

Working with the Director of Medicine and Animal Centre Manager, support best practices surrounding shelter medicine and clinic practices for the animal hospital, shelter pets, and programs.


Team Leadership:

With the support of the leadership team, a staff team of 30, and an overall organization of 400 individuals, provide visionary leadership to the entire organization.

Direct time and energy into building and sustaining a strong and capable leadership team with the right skills to accomplish results, with the support of the Manager of People & Culture.

Facilitate a strong volunteer culture for our team to fulfil organizational priorities and programs. Experience driving organizational vitality through human capital planning and performance management skills. The CEO will foster a positive workplace culture with integrated diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices.

Also, this individual will provide visionary results-oriented leadership to the management team with sound pragmatic decision making and creative problem-solving skills.

Through effective people management and leadership capacity, the CEO can engage and inspire others to achieve shared goals in a positive workplace culture.


Financial Management:

This role will create and execute a comprehensive and fiscally sound financial plan to meet both current and future organizational objectives.

Leading the evaluation of financial and operational decisions, especially regarding the capital campaign strategic plan. A fundamental responsibility for delivering a balanced budget to the BOD annually. The CEO will spearhead and drive forward the capital campaign in a financially responsible manner. This includes evaluating financial and operational decisions based on impact and financial data. Focus furthermore is on identifying opportunities for increased revenue generation, social enterprise, and sustainable financial options.

Building long term sustainable fundraising programs for the organization, the CEO will ensure the right resources are in place to meet fundraising and campaign objectives, with the support of the Senior Manager of Philanthropy.

This includes working with the Philanthropy team to attract major donations and engage the BOD on key major gift requests.

Part of the role will also include soliciting and helping close gifts with major principal donors, in concert with the Philanthropy team.

The CEO will be a strong relationship manager, with proven success in building and maintaining effective relationships with donors, supporters, partners, etc.


Change Leadership and Innovation - Capital Campaign: A critical focus for this role will be to evaluate and lead innovative change within the organization, to meet the growing demands of the community for both pets and people.

Spearheading and acting as a catalyst for future planning, including the Capital Campaign for our new home - the Regional Centre for Pets and People (RCPP) is a large component of the role.
