THE OPPORTUNITY


The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic leader to join our team in the capacity of
Manager of Social Work and Specialized Teams.

This is a full-time, term position to start April 2024 until April 28, 2027.


Reporting to the
Superintendent of Education with responsibilities for Student and Support Services, the Manager of Social Work and Specialized Teams leads all aspects of the Social Work and Specialized Teams department, ensuring high expectations, exemplary leadership, and fiscal accountability.

Guelph Board Office (500 Victoria Road N, Guelph ON) I Grant Evans Education Centre (40 Amelia Street, Orangeville ON)


Salary Range:
$121,105 to $145,283 per year; 40 hours per week


Board Information: 1.0 FTE; Administrative Employees; This is a 10-month term position (September to June) with two (2) additional scheduled weeks in the summer months.


The
Manager of Social Work and Specialized Teams fosters trusting relationships with the senior team, colleagues, families, staff, union partners and community through their open, transparent, and accountable approach.

This position utilizes their skills in relationship building, collaboration, problem solving and creative thinking to support the future development and enhancement of current programs and delivery models focused on maximizing supports for students at the classroom level.


Responsibilities:


  • Leads, facilitates, and supervises the ongoing professional learning and development of Social Work and Specialized Teams staff to ensure high quality of practice, ethical and responsible practices as well as system cohesion and alignment within the department.
  • Actively participates in organizational, community partner and professional provincial team opportunities for collaboration to build, enhance and develop cohesive and current practices.
  • Participates, leads, and supports tragic event, crisis intervention and Violence Risk Threat Assessment (VTRA) systems, training, and processes within the Board.
  • Provides organizational support, planning, and coordination of services to Student Services staff and Board committees and initiatives, including assessment, prevention, intervention, and support for students with learning, emotion, and behavioral needs.
  • Attends professional development and research activities (such as readings, conferences, symposiums, peer consultation, etc.) to keep abreast of theory and practices of school based social work, attendance, mental health and behaviour assessment and intervention, ethical and privacy legislation/standards.
  • Leads and manages all aspects of Counselling, Attendance and Specialized Mental Health services within the Board such as: o Staffing, hiring, maintaining staffing assignments, performance evaluations, participating in the grievance process as required and service delivery tracking. o Actively participates in service coordination, specialized support referrals and transitional supports for highrisk indicators. o Organizes and leads meetings and clinical consultations with staff. o Provides advice and support to school administrators. o Develops departmental goals and best practices. o Monitors budget priorities.
  • Performs other duties as required to grow and develop as a leader.

Experience and Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary Degree combined with a Master of Social Work is required.
  • Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers in good standing.
  • Significant experience, including previous supervisory experience, working in school boards or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development and well developed skills in providing support and intervention for developmental, behavioural, and mental health needs.
  • A good understanding of evidence based interventions to support school aged youth to address developmental, behavioural, and mental health needs is required.
  • Knowledge of attendance legislation is required
