Working Conditions
Working with people with mental illness or other disabilities and those experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Standard work hours are 35 hours/week, 8:30am-4pm Monday to Friday, however work schedule may include evenings and weekends from time to time.


Position Summary


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Social Enterprise will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the management and future development of social impact initiatives within the organization.

This role requires a dynamic and strategic leader with a deep understanding of social responsibility.

The Director of Social Enterprise will collaborate with various stakeholders, including internal agency teams, external partners and community organizations to drive sustainable and positive social change while ensuring financial viability.


About the Role

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social enterprise strategy aligned with the organization's mission and values. Explore and evaluate potential revenue generating social enterprise opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for social impact that align with the organizations core activities.
  • Assist the Operational Managers in the recruitment, training and supervision of SE participants as needed.
  • Monitor, manage and support the Operational Managers including coverage of duties as required.
  • Ensure the implementation of all policies and procedures as established by the senior management team.
  • Provide leadership to the organization and promote team building.
  • Create structured systems/processes across social enterprises for participant file management, contracts, onboarding & training of new employees following supported employment models.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with external organizations, NGOs and government agencies to create opportunities for social impact collaborations.
  • Lead & develop business planning with Operational Managers.
  • Develop and manage budgets for social enterprise initiatives, ensuring financial accountability and sustainability.
  • Implement effective financial models for social enterprises, balancing profitability with social impact goals.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to teams working on social enterprise projects.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPI's) to measure the social impact of initiatives.
  • Ensure all required reporting is inputted accurately in a timely manner.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including employees, customers and community partners.
  • Represent the organization in social impact forums, conferences and events.
  • Ensure that all social enterprise activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, agency and health and safety policies, and ethical standards.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with social enterprise activities / initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the social enterprise department.
  • The Director of Social Enterprise will be an integral part of the larger Senior Management team and will participate in contributing to the strategic priorities and direction of Causeway Work Centre as a whole.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors' degree or diploma in area of social services, business administration or other related field, combined with experience working with vulnerable and marginalized client groups.
  • Working knowledge of disability, mental health and addiction issues as barriers to employment.
  • Clear understanding of social enterprise initiatives.
  • Demonstrated value alignment with Causeway Work Centre's mission and mandate.
  • Business acumen considered an asset
  • Ability to balance social impact and financial sustainability.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products, social media channels, Quick books and Customer relationship software.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships.
  • Driver's license & clean abstract required.
